Chapter 2 Warning
Shimki is a small town. People in the town were either evacuated or went to the front line. There were not many people walking around in the town. Lin Hua finally found the town police station under the guidance of an old lady.
At the door of the police station, there was a policeman walking back and forth in a rifle. Seeing Lin Hua coming, he stopped, stretched out his hand to Lin Hua, and said with a smile: "Misha, are you okay with coming to find the director?"
Seeing that the police standing guard knew him, Lin Hua showed a surprised expression on his face, thinking that Selyosha had just mistakenly thought to him as Misha. Now this policeman also calls him Misha. Does he look so similar to Misha they know?
But at this moment he was anxious to find the town people's committee member and asked the other party to send militias to strengthen the defense in the north. He didn't even care about why others treated him as Misha. He asked bluntly: "Comrade Police, is the director here?"
"It's here," the policeman nodded a few times and said, "I'm having dinner with the town people's committee members in his office."
Lin Hua opened the wooden door and walked in. He saw an office with open doors at the end of the long corridor. According to his experience, it should be the director's office. Just as he was about to step forward, he suddenly saw a rectangular mirror hanging on the wall on the left. He hurried over to find out his current image. Unexpectedly, he saw a stranger in the mirror, a young man wearing a short yellow leather military coat, without a hat, with short golden hair and a thin face. According to his appearance characteristics, he could tell that he was a real Russian at a glance.
"Oh my god," Lin Hua was shocked after seeing his face and said in his heart: "Why did I become a Russian? What's going on?"
He stood in front of the mirror and was stunned for a while, suddenly remembering his destination here. In a few hours, the Germans would break into the town of Shimki. If they were not prepared as soon as possible, not only would the squad meeting he commanded were destroyed, but even the remaining residents in the town would suffer. Thinking of this, he quickly walked towards the director's office ahead.
A stove was built near the window of the director's office, making the whole room look warm. A policeman sat on the bench on the left side of the door and drooped on the dozing. Hearing footsteps, he looked up and saw clearly that the person was Misha, nodded at him, and then continued to lower his head and close his eyes to rest.
Lin Hua saw two middle-aged men in military coats eating at the desk beside the wall. On the table were sliced bread, pickled cucumbers, pickled tomatoes and other foods, and even two cups of steaming black tea. Lin Hua didn't know who was the town people's committee member he was looking for, so he quickly raised his hand to his forehead and saluted them. At the same time, he asked politely: "Who is the town people's committee member?"
Hearing Lin Hua's voice, he turned his back to the middle-aged man at the door, and after seeing clearly that the person standing behind him was Lin Hua, he stood up with a smile: "So it's Comrade Misha, have you had lunch? Why don't you have something together?"
As soon as the other party stood up, Lin Hua saw clearly the rank of lieutenant on the other party's head. He guessed that the other party might be the director of the police station, and quickly said respectfully: "Thank you, Comrade Director. I haven't eaten yet, but I have something urgent to ask for the town people's committee member."
The middle-aged man sitting facing the door put the half-bitten cucumber into his mouth, chewed it a few times and swallowed it, looked at Lin Hua and asked, "Comrade Corporal, I am Kochetov, the town people's committee member, what are you doing?"
Lin Hua hurriedly took two steps forward and said to Kochetov: "Comrade of the People's Commissar, according to the intelligence, a small German army is advancing towards Shimki. It is estimated that it will be here soon. I hope you can transfer nearby militias to the north of the town to strengthen the defense there..."
Before Lin Hua finished speaking, Kochetov scolded him: "Comrade Corporal, do you know what you are talking about? The Germans will break into Shimki in a few hours? No matter where you get this information, I want to remind you: In front of us is the 16th Army commanded by Lieutenant General Rokosovsky. Even if they sacrifice their lives, they will never take a step back. But what are you talking about? Some Germans want to break through their defense, rush into Shimki town in the suburbs of Moscow, and break into the heart of the Soviet motherland. To put it nicely, this is a ridiculous idea; to put it nicely, this is a manifestation of defeatism."
After the storm in Kochetov, Lin Hua gritted his teeth and said, "Comrade of the Town People's Committee, it is entirely possible for the enemy to bypass our army's defense line and break here. I think it is entirely necessary to dispatch militias to strengthen the defense in the north of the town."
When Kochetov heard Lin Hua say this, he was furious. He pointed at Lin Hua and shouted: "Who do you think you are? A general or a marshal? He could actually judge the next move of the German army, thinking that they would break into this small town of Shimki. I think I want to call your superior immediately and ask him to transfer you away, to the place where the battle is most intense, and fight face to face with the Germans. You won't be like this all day long."
Seeing that Kochetov was so stubborn, Lin Hua knew that there was no intention to persuade him. He decided to leave here immediately and rush to the north of the town to set up defense. He straightened his body and asked Kochetov: "Comrade of the People's Committee of the Town, are you allowed me to leave?"
Kochetov was eager for Lin Hua to leave at this moment. Seeing that he offered to leave, he waved his hand and signaled that Lin Hua could leave. Lin Hua raised his hand and saluted Kochetov and the director, turned around and prepared to walk out of the office.
"Wait a minute, Misha!" Just as Lin Hua was about to walk out of the office, he was stopped by the director. Lin Hua stopped and turned his head to look at the police lieutenant, not knowing what he was going to say to him.
The director pointed his head with his finger and said to Lin Hua in a kind tone: "Misha, it's cold, don't forget to wear a hat when you go out. It's better to blow the cold wind, which will cause headaches."
Lin Hua nodded gratefully for the director's concern, raised his hand and saluted the other party, and then walked out of the director's office with great strides.
Lin Hua came to the north of the town and met his own group of subordinates here. There were ten people in the class, including himself, and the main and deputy machine gunners were called Sidolin, and the two were brothers. Among the remaining six, there were two submachine gunners. The remaining weapons used by the rest were the same as those of him and Selyosha, and the Mosinnagan rifles.
Xie Liaosha asked Lin Hua in a low voice: "Misha, what do you say to the town people's committee member?"
Lin Hua shook his head and said with a wry smile: "He doesn't believe that the Germans will rush to Shimki Town, and even scolded me."
Selyosha had long guessed that Lin Hua would hit a wall. After all, the troops had been stationed here for more than a month. Apart from being bombed several times, they didn't even see the shadow of the Germans. Besides, there was the main force of the 16th Army in front of them. How could the enemy rush into the town? However, in order to take care of Misha's face, he still asked politely: "Misha, what should we do?"
Lin Hua was thinking in his heart that although the Soviet army had been retreating since the outbreak of the war and the German army had arrived at the city of Moscow, most people did not think that the German army was able to rush into Moscow, so they lacked the necessary vigilance. This can be seen from the reaction of the town people's committee member Kochetov. Since they did not receive external support, they could only rely on their existing strength to block the German troops who were trying to break into Shimki.
