Chapter 53 Main Attack Mission (2)

When Lin Hua left his command center, Lemizov picked up the phone and asked the communications troop to connect to the army headquarters. When he heard a sound from the receiver, he immediately said to the microphone: "I am Major General Lemizov, please help me find the commander."

After a moment, Rokosovsky's voice came from the receiver: "I am Rokosovsky, General Lemizov, do you have anything to report?"

"Yes, Commander Comrade." Lemizov said respectfully: "I have incorporated the Istria Company into the 115th Infantry Brigade of Lieutenant Colonel Andrewsenko, and they will complete the main offensive mission of seizing the German positions on the Rama River."

"I have no objection," Rokosovsky said lightly: "You are the commander of the right-wing fast cluster. How to fight, you can make your own decisions without asking me for instructions. Is there anything else?"

"Comrade Commander," Lemizov thought for a while, and then said, "There are more than 400 people in the entire Istrian company. I suggest that the company be promoted to the battalion and appoint Lieutenant Sokov as the battalion commander. I wonder what your opinion is?" Lemizov heard that there was something between Lieutenant Sokov and Rokosovsky, so he proposed a plan to upgrade the company to the battalion, which was somewhat pleasing.

He thought that after listening to his suggestion, Rokosovsky would agree naturally, but he did not expect that Rokosovsky said decisively: "No, General Lemizov, Istria cannot be promoted to the battalion for the time being. Except for us not having so many grassroots commanders to enrich the troops, Lieutenant Sokov's ability is still an unknown number, and we still need to test it in future battles. Do you understand?"

"I understand, Comrade Commander." Lemizov responded with a hurried blushing face.

Andrewshenko heard the conversation between Lemizov and Rokosovsky. He waited for Lemizov to put down the phone and said, "Comrade General, as far as I know, this Lieutenant Sokov was promoted from a squad leader to a company commander in just over a dozen days, and his military rank has also changed from a corporal to a lieutenant. No matter how capable he is, it is not a good thing for him to advance five levels in such a short period of time, as this will lead to unstable foundations. Therefore, I think the commander's decision is correct."

Lemizov agreed with Andrelyushenko's statement. After Andrelyushenko finished speaking, he said with slightest voice: "I heard a rumor that some people said that this Lieutenant Sokov was the illegitimate son of General Rokosovsky."

As soon as Andrewshenko picked up the teacup and took a sip of water, he heard that Sokov was Rokosovsky's illegitimate child, he sprayed all the tea in his mouth and sprayed Lemizov's face. He hurriedly found something to help Lemizov wipe his face, and said apologetically: "I'm sorry, Comrade General, I didn't mean it. But the news you just said is so surprising."

Lemizov raised his sleeve, wiped the tea on his face, and said with a wry smile: "The first time I heard this rumor, I also reacted the same way as you. After all, our commander has many romantic affairs, and it is not uncommon to have one or two illegitimate children."

"I think Lieutenant Sokov should not be the commander's illegitimate son." After Lemizov finished speaking, he shook his head and denied it. "I just looked carefully. Although Lieutenant Sokov is very handsome, he is not like the commander's comrade. I think even if there is an illegitimate son outside, he will not be Lieutenant Sokov."

Lin Hua, who left the command center and walked towards the supply point, suddenly sneezes a few times without warning. Two passing soldiers quickly stopped and said to Lin Hua: "I wish you good health!"

Lin Hua knew that it was a custom for them to say this to her sneezing self, so he nodded at them with a smile and said politely: "Thank you!"

When Lin Hua returned to the supply point, except for a sentry standing guard, the rest of the soldiers went to the tent arranged for them after eating and drinking. Seeing that his company commander came back, the sentry hurriedly saluted him. After Lin Hua returned the salute, he asked, "Where are the platoon leaders?"

The sentry pointed to a tent on the east side and said, "There are all platoon leaders there."

After Lin Hua thanked the sentry, he quickly came to the tent. He raised his hand and lifted the curtain, bent down and got into the tent. Several platoon leaders were lying side by side on the floor to sleep. When they heard someone coming in from outside, they all raised their heads and looked at the entrance of the tent, wanting to see who was disturbing their dreams.

The first person to see Lin Hua was the second platoon commander Andrei. He raised his voice and shouted: "It's the company commander who is back." He was the first to get up to greet Lin Hua.

Looking at the platoon leaders around him, Lin Hua said, "Comrades in the platoon leaders, I have just received an order from my superiors. Tomorrow the troops will launch an attack on the German defensive positions on the banks of the Rama River, and our company will be responsible for the main attack mission."

Although Lin Hua said this in an understatement, the tent suddenly became quiet. Seeing everyone's frowning, Lin Hua asked: "Everyone has any questions, you can ask them."

"Comrade Commander," Lieutenant Vanya, who spoke first, was an officer with rich combat experience, and asked directly about the information he was eager to know: "I wonder how many troops the enemy has on the defensive position we are going to seize, and what kind of weapons and equipment do we have?"

Fortunately, when Lin Hua was accepting the mission, he had asked Andersonko specifically, so when he heard Vanya's question, he could answer confidently: "According to the report of the scouts, the defenders on the position had about one company equipped with three to five machine guns, several mortars, and half of the soldiers were equipped with submachine guns..."

After answering Wanya's question, the engineer platoon commander Vasily asked again: "Comrade Commander, don't you know if the German army has arranged minefields at the forefront of the position? If so, is it necessary for our engineers to open a passage for the offensive forces?"

Facing Vasily's question, Lin Hua thought for a while, and then said, "I don't think it's necessary to entrust Vasily. Before the attack begins, half an hour of artillery preparation will be carried out. After the artillery bombing is over, the mines in the minefield should be almost cleaned up."
