Chapter 8 The General’s Visit

When shook hands with the two squad leaders, Lin Hua noticed the sadness in Grissa's eyes. It seemed that something happened not long ago that made him sad. He wanted to ask what was going on, but it was very impolite to ask such privacy questions during this meeting. Lin Hua made a call in the church and said to the three of them: "Let's go, let's go to the bell tower first."

They walked through the church hall and walked up the narrow spiral ladder to the top of the bell tower. The structure of the bell tower is four pillars with an onion-like dome, and a rusty copper bell is hung on the beam on the top, and the long rope of the bell is hanging down and swaying in the wind.

The bell tower has a wide view. Standing here, the entire town of Shimki was in sight. Lin Hua pointed his hand at the town below and said to Andre: "Comrade Deputy Platoon Commander, you see it. This is Shimki Town. In order to prevent the Germans from launching another sneak attack, we must strengthen our vigilance. From today on, mobile posts will be sent in all four directions of the town, with two people in groups to conduct uninterrupted patrols."

"I understand." Andre agreed, turned around and ordered Grissa: "Squad leader, your squad will be responsible for the first patrol. Four hours later, the comrades from the second squad will take over you."

After Grissa saluted Lin Hua and Andrei, he turned around and walked down the bell tower along the spiral staircase. After his back disappeared, Lin Hua carefully asked Andrei: "Comrade Deputy Platoon Leader, what's wrong with the squad leader? I looked at his eyes and was still quite sad."

But Andre obviously did not notice this, but turned his eyes to Geria on the side: "Geria, you have a good relationship with Geria. Do you know what happened?"

"We were going," Geria said with some embarrassment: "He was told that his mother and sister were killed in the German bombing."

As soon as Geria said, everyone calmed down. After a long time, Andre said in a dry voice: "You know, many people died, this is war after all."

"Comrade Deputy Platoon Leader, we will sooner or later ask them for the blood debts owed by the Germans." After Lin Hua said this, he turned his head to Geria and said, "Comrade Geria, please tell Geria that the best way to resolve the sadness is to work hard. Only by defeating the fascist invaders can we avenge our dead relatives!"

Seeing that the work had been arranged, Lin Hua was about to go downstairs. Suddenly, Geria said, "Comrade Platoon Leader, I have an idea."

Lin Hua stopped and turned his head to ask Geria: "Comrade Geria, what do you think? Let me tell you!"

Geria pointed to the ground and said to Lin Hua: "Comrade Platoon Commander, the view on the bell tower is wide and can bring you the entire town to a full view. If we arranged a post here and cooperated with the mobile post patrolling on all sides, we would probably be able to better defend the town."

Regarding Geria's proposal, Lin Hua did not make a decision immediately, but asked Andre with a smile: "Comrade Deputy Platoon Leader, do you think this is OK?"

Seeing Lin Hua take the initiative to ask for his opinions, Andre was a little surprised. He frowned and thought for a while, then nodded with his hands behind his back and said, "Comrade Geria's suggestion is good. We should arrange a post here. If anything unusual is found, he can ring the bell and call the police in time, so that we can prepare for battle as soon as possible."

Lin Hua also considered setting up a sentry on the bell tower yesterday, but firstly there were too few soldiers under his command, and he had only four people; secondly, the wind was strong on the bell tower, and the sentries were easily frozen when they went on duty in such a cold day. However, now that the new troops have been added, there is no problem with arranging sentries on the bell tower. Thinking of this, he reminded Andre: "Comrade Deputy Platoon Commander, the bell tower is too cold, and the sentries on duty change their posts every half an hour to avoid being frozen. Do you understand?"

"I understand!" Andrey quickly replied, "I will arrange a group of three people to take turns to work."

Just as the three of them were about to go downstairs, Geria, who was walking at the end, shouted again: "Comrade platoon leader, it seems that a few people are coming to us."

Lin Hua, who had walked down the spiral ladder for a few steps, heard Geria's voice, hurriedly walked back and asked, "Where is it?"

"There's there!" Geria pointed to the east and said, "Comrade Platoon Commander, look, there were five people in total. Three soldiers and one policeman, and another in a military coat without a rank, perhaps a militia..."

Lin Hua looked in the direction of Geria's finger and saw that on the snowy street, several people were slowly walking towards the direction of the church. He looked at it intently and soon he could see clearly that the ordinary person walking on the far left without any rank sign on the military coat was Kochetov, a member of the town Soviet Commissioner; the policeman walking beside him was Lieutenant Fei Ding, the director of the police station. The other three soldiers walked in front was a commander, and three golden stars were inlaid on the bright red diamond-shaped collar, which was actually a general; the two soldiers following him should be his guards.

What was going on? How could a lieutenant general appear here? In order to find out what was going on, Lin Hua hurriedly took Andre and the others down the bell tower, called the soldiers staying in the church outside the door, and asked everyone to line up to welcome the upcoming general.

After the general accompanied by Kochetov approached, Lin Hua hurriedly stepped forward and raised his hand to salute: "Comrade General, Symki's special garrison platoon leader Sokov reported to you, welcome to visit us!"

The general raised his hand and said, "Stop!" Then he turned his head and asked Kochetov on the side, "Comrade Kochetov, since he is the leader of the garrison platoon, why is he still the rank of corporal?"

"Comrade General," Kochetov explained with a smile: "Yesterday, General Aldemiyev, the commander of the garrison, appointed him as the newly established garrison platoon leader and promoted him to the rank of sergeant. Due to the hasty time, he may not have time to change the rank sign."

Kochetov turned to look at Lin Hua and said to him, "Misha, you may not know this general yet. Let me introduce you to him. He is Lieutenant General Rokosovsky, the commander of the 16th Army. He just passed by here after the meeting in Moscow. Because I heard about your deeds, I will come to see you specifically."

When he learned that the tall and handsome middle-aged general in front of him was a famous general who stood out in the Patriotic War. He was known as one of the three troikas of the Soviet Army, and was calm and calm, unstoppable. He made many outstanding achievements in adversity during the war and was praised by later generations as the "hero of adversity" by later generations, Lin Hua's blood surged on his face. He raised his hand again and said in a hoarse voice because of excitement: "Hello, General Rokosovsky, on behalf of all the soldiers of the garrison platoon, I welcome your arrival!"

Rokosovsky shook hands with Lin Hua and said in a friendly tone: "Hello, Comrade Sokov! When I heard Kochetov mention your deeds, I thought of coming here to see what the commander of the German soldiers who had blocked more than twenty armed to the teeth with a few new recruits."
