95 Dredging Newport Creek
The morning sun rises eastward, shining on the earth, and it is another sunny day. This bare rotten land by the Xingang Creek finally ushered in a large-scale opening today.
The crowd rolled in from Chikan. After these people came to the planned kiln base with various tools, they divided them into several strands and started to be busy.
Tainan has a distinct dry and wet climate, with 80% of the annual rainfall concentrated in summer, so the abundant and dry season of local rivers is also obvious.
It is already November. Standing on the river bank that was washed away by summer floods and had a drop of 4 meters high, you can clearly see the slowly flowing Xingang Creek below. The surface of the stream is only more than 10 meters wide at this time, and there is a riverbed span of more than 10 meters from the river banks on both sides. This can be clearly calculated: when the floods in summer are rushing, Xingang Creek can easily exceed the width of 30 meters.
A large number of laborers found two gaps on the river bank at this time. Most of them went down directly to the river bank. A small number of them took shovels and pickaxes to build the two gaps out of the soil steps to facilitate the up and down.
There were already people installing hanging rods on the shore. One end of the metal hanging rod painted in rebellious colors poked out of the river bank, and a hand-pulled hoist was installed on the pole head.
The primitive and messy riverbed that has existed since ancient times, for the first time, a large number of human activities have appeared.
All the stones were picked up and put into baskets, whether they were pebbles that had been washed over the years or large rocks that had only arrived with the flood in recent years. The baskets were picked up under the river bank, and then tied to the iron hook that stretched down by the hand-pulled hoist. With a bamboo whistle sounded, several people shouted and pulled the bamboo baskets filled with stones ashore.
The handling of wood is even more difficult. After the flood, many large trees rushing upstream are scattered on the riverbed and stream surface, and some of the big trees become natural bridges connecting the two sides. Although the location of the bridge changes every year, as long as you walk up and down, you can always find such natural bridges.
People first used axes and short saws to remove the branches on the big wood, and then organized their hands according to the length of the trees, worked together, and shouted trumpets to carry the logs back to the shore.
The primitive rivers in the 17th century were covered with shallows. Nowadays, the crossings are not able to fully dredge the Xingang Creek, but the streams near the south bank must be dredged. Any shallow sandbanks south of the central channel will be temporarily built to dig out the drainage channel, and the sand will be dug out to build houses and pave roads.
The above work will continue to extend downstream until the exit of the Xingang Creek. The lake near the exit will also be renovated according to the situation.
In short, the ultimate goal of crossing the crowd is to: a small boat carrying building materials exits from the base of the kiln area, go out to sea with Xingang Creek, then circle along the outer sea, come in from the entrance of the Daguan Channel, and then cross the Taijiang Inland Sea, unload the goods to Chikan Pier.
This is the logistics plan designed by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
You should know that the kiln area base is in the middle of Xingang Creek, and is 3.5 kilometers away from Chikan New Area. At present, there is no Cummins or asphalt roads. If the building materials produced in the kiln area are traveling 6 routes, the efficiency will be extremely slow.
A worker carrying a load or pushing a cart can deliver up to a few hundred kilograms of goods to the field if he is tired. A small boat, two or three boatmen, can deliver two or three tons of goods by whistling. It seems that the road is long, but in fact, water transportation is a big advantage.
The only thing that requires special arrangement is to arrange some boaters at the mouth of Xingang River. When the wind direction is not suitable, the boaters will pull the boat back to the kiln area. The boats on the return journey are empty and there are not many boaters. Perhaps they will not show the bitter and revengeful look; not to mention that in the planning of the travelers, all workers are required to pay, and it is nothing more than foreign workers who do not have three insurances and one fund.
This is how the vigorous construction of the kiln area began.
Chen Dong was wearing a denim work suit and stood on the river bank. At this moment, he lifted the net cover above his head and silently looked at the busy workers on the riverbed.
"The project is progressing well. Why are you so long?" asked Feng Guanjie, who was also wearing a hat and dressed in Longmen Inn, next to him.
"Oh, the progress is good, I'm afraid I can't maintain it!" Chen Dong said with a frown.
"Are you talking about malaria?" Feng Guanjie reacted: "Isn't it already ordered the landfill of stagnant water to be given priority?"
"Will no one die when filling the pit?" Chen Dong curled his lips.
Feng Guanjie smiled and said, "There is no way. There is no way to do anything to do. We don't even have enough labor protection services now. We still have to build rivers in the 17th century. Hehe, it's exciting to think about it."
"Oh..." Chen Dong sighed: "If you die too much, it will definitely affect the progress. Will malaria drugs not be approved?"
"Tsk..." This time it was Feng Guanjie's turn to sneer: "You don't look at what the quarrels are like on the forum. Now you have just a little reserve sample. If you use it on a large scale, Bai Shu will not agree first. This thing is resistant to drugs!"
"Besides, who can I give it to me or not?" Feng Guanjie shook his head: "The right way is to climb the chemical technology tree honestly, and the rest are all about treating symptoms but not root causes."
"Well, this is the only way." Chen Dong nodded: "I inform you that the river cleaning work will be carried out in the future. The upstream must be cleaned at least 5 kilometers, the downstream will be cleared to the sea outlet. In addition, you must cover the drying kiln first."
......
The drying kiln is the most urgently needed building at the moment, and it is also a relatively simple one among the many material kilns: when the wood is dry, the temperature in the kiln usually does not exceed 80 degrees. Compared with other kilns that often have more than 100 degrees, the drying kiln does not require refractory bricks and has lower construction requirements.
The long-dragon-shaped drying kiln is built with pebbles, river sand, and precious stock cement. The first drying kiln built by traveling through the crowd was only 2.5 meters high, 3 meters wide, and 20 meters long in order to save materials.
For this reason, Cao Chuan also made a special trip to later generations and brought two sets of regular pressure boilers and some pipelines. The boiler belly was filled with various accessories, many of which were used in other projects in the future, including the pipelines being filled with small parts.
The 2-meter-high cylindrical normal pressure boiler is installed in the middle of the outside of the kiln body. The boiler and the kiln body are connected by pipes, and a shed is built on the top of the head.
The pipes that are probed include air inlet ducts and return air ducts. The pipes are installed above the kiln body and parallel to the kiln. The hot air inlet duct is connected to the boiler air outlet, and the return air duct is introduced into the fan. There is a wet exhaust window and an axial flow fan on the top of the kiln. Currently, there is no electricity, all areas where fans are needed are man-made.
The drying kiln was installed and debugged for 5 days. Given that the project was too small, although it was a bit memorable, the bosses basically did not come on the day of ignition... After a simple small ceremony, the boss of the Ministry of Industry, recently, Comrade Zou Guoqing, who had been doing a human being with his tails in his arms, threw a lit firewood stick into the boiler furnace with a smile on his face.
