It is just to determine whether the line is faulty through the communication channel and then take action. This will undoubtedly affect the protection operation time. Quickly cutting off the fault is a safety requirement for the power grid, so quickness is the most important indicator of relay protection.
Simply put, in traditional standards, if the line length is 100km and the fault occurs within the range of 70km, it requires instantaneous action tripping. Outside 70km, it takes a certain amount of time to wait for the comprehensive judgment of the peer information. If it is at 100km, it is my responsibility. If it is at 101km, it is the next line and I will not move.
The errors of traditional protection products are here. At this distance near the junction of the two lines, protection will inevitably have errors in judgment, specifically the distance between 95km and 105km.
I was focusing on the new standard proposed in this area. Originally, it was enough to ensure rapid action within 70%. Now it is proposed to reach 95%, which is based on the more accurate working current of the microcomputer and more accurate logic algorithms, or in other words, it puts forward a standard that is temporarily difficult to meet for algorithms and logic.
