Chapter 833 War and Peace

Early October 1904

The Ocean Empire launched a vigorous "Building a Beautiful New Countryside" campaign, which is a long-planned national action, aiming to abandon bad habits, widely educate and develop good hygiene habits, build a clean, tidy, beautiful and hygienic new countryside, and popularize the new civilized style to every corner of the countryside.

The rapid economic development has driven social progress, and polite words and good hygiene habits are widely used in cities, creating a beautiful and tidy urban environment, which has achieved great results over the years.

However, as an important part of society, in remote villages and some agricultural and towns in overseas prefectures, there are common bad behaviors such as dirty and messy environments, illegal construction, cattle, sheep, manure and sewage, and drowning everywhere. In some areas, people are strong, rude, and often draw guns to face each other.

The "Building a Beautiful New Countryside" movement is to carry out targeted education and improvement work across the country, and blow new civilized winds into every corner.

Newspapers and public opinion began to preheat and promote it in succession. The reports were listed as typical villages and towns in "beautiful new countryside". Among them were fishing villages on the coast, villages in mountainous areas, demonstration villages in agricultural areas, and demonstration villages in pastoral areas. Their common characteristics are the clean environment, sanitation, removal of private construction, unified resettlement of garbage, manure in the livestock sheds and manure into the biogas pool, clean and sanitary roads, and flowers, green trees and fruit trees are planted occasionally, and villagers jointly create a livable environment.

The investment in the "Beautiful New Countryside" movement is not large. The key is to mobilize the majority of villagers to work together to create a beautiful environment in their hometown.

The government has subsidies for the construction of biogas tanks in private, and also builds some waste dumps, prohibits littering and drowning everywhere, advocates new civilized styles, and is harmonious with neighbors. It has awarded honors such as "Five Good Family Plaques", "Good Gentlemen", and "Civilized Model", encouraging advanced people, urging backward lazy people, severely punish village bullies, crack down on evil people who make trouble, and create a harmonious and stable social environment.

This is a perseverance movement, which requires continuous instilling new civilized styles into the villagers, organizing everyone to visit and study in model villages and towns, experience the charm of the beautiful new countryside, and consciously and voluntarily participate in this activity.

At the same time, the battle between Liaoyang in the three northeastern provinces was in full swing, with flesh and blood flying everywhere, showing an extremely tragic scene.

The battle started in early July 1904. The first, second and fourth troops of Fusang were rushing towards Liaoyang in three directions, and occupied Liaoyang by the end of September. For two and a half months, fierce battles between the two sides frequently turned into a mess.

The Russian army participated in the Liaoyang Battle to more than 240,000 troops, far more than Fusang Kingdom. The generals in the front were seriously lacking in attack. They took the defensive power with their superior forces and firepower, and gave up their dominance.

Compare with it

The Japanese army led by Marshal Dashani is strong in attack. For the Japanese army, occupying Liaoyang opened a door to Fengtian, which is of great significance.

During the battle, the Japanese army resolutely implemented the offensive order despite the heavy casualties, and used the proactive attack power to gather local forces to continuously strike the Russian army, forcing them to retreat step by step, and eventually lost the battle.

After occupying Liaoyang, Marshal Dashanyan did not order his troops to pursue the Russian army to Fengtian, but stopped advancing and the entire army carried out rectification.

It’s not that he doesn’t want to do this, but that he can’t continue.

After two and a half months of high-intensity combat, the troops were trapped and horses were scarce, the soldiers suffered huge losses, and the number of casualties reached more than 2.5,000. The troops, equipment and ammunition were very short of each army, so they were really unable to pursue and further expand the results of the battle.

In this battle, Tsarist Russia suffered 27,000 casualties, accounting for one-ninth of the total force, and did not suffer any major damage from the injury.

The Japanese army won a tragic victory based on the corpses, but its fierce offensive momentum left a serious shadow in the hearts of the Russian army.

Standing outside Liaoyang City

Captain Li Jianyang looked at the corpses everywhere after the fierce battle, and fell in the fields in a row. In the trenches, there were broken corpses scattered by charred shell craters of all sizes, and felt numb.

Look up and look

The observation balloons of the Japanese artillery were floating in the air. Before they could take them back, a few crows in the distance roared and circled, adding to the tragic atmosphere after the war.

"Lee, witness this fierce battle with your own eyes. How do you feel?" The speaker was Major Jean-Pierre, a former French nobleman.

Li Jianyang sighed and replied, "It affected my appetite for dinner, Mr. Major."

"Oh, God, you're talking so well. This war is like a boxing match that is about to be fist. The fighting of the Fusang people left a deep impression on me. What's surprising is that... I didn't expect the Russians to lose so badly."

"The Russian army retreated quickly from carefully constructed positions, and was the only place that made people shine."

"Hahaha...I understand it as irony."

"No, Mr. Major, the Russian army was able to withdraw in an orderly manner under the attack of the enemy without causing great chaos. This also requires good organizational capabilities. Unfortunately... they have discarded too many valuable materials."

"It's true." Major Jean-Pierre looked at the mountains of supplies in the Russian camp in the distance and couldn't help but smack his lips and said regretfully. "The huge franc loan is wasted, and I will focus on this in my observation report. The commander of the Russian front line of the Russian army, General Kuropatkin, threatened to "did rather die than retreat from Liaoyang." He deceived us. The expected wonderful showdown did not appear. The Tsarist Russian army suffered only some insignificant losses, so he ran away crying and shouting for his parents. He was a coward and idiot."

"I have to say... under the leadership of stupid generals, it is difficult for the Tsarist Russian army to win a battle." Li Jianyang said with a frown and frowned. "With superior forces, he defended the carefully constructed position and hoarded a large amount of supplies, but it was broken with a slight punch. To be honest, Major Jean-Pierre, your Tsarist Russian allies are not reliable."

"It sounds harsh, but I have to admit that this is a sad fact." Major Jean-Pierre shrugged his shoulders indifferently. The French did not want Tsarist Russia to invest too much energy in the Far East. It might be a good thing to hit a hard nail here; "I should remind you, dear Captain Lee, this war is not over. Hundreds of thousands of Tsarist Russian soldiers are on their way to the Far East. In the future, the Fusans will face greater pressure, hoping that they can maintain the momentum of the offensive. Perhaps it will not take long before the Tsarist Russian army will launch a large-scale counterattack."

"I hope so, but I'm not in the mood to continue watching."

Li Jianyang turned his horse's head and headed towards Liaoyang City not far away. Major Jean-Pierre was not interested in watching. He knocked his feet on the horse's belly, drove his pedals and trotted, and followed Captain Li Jianyang in front.

Liaoyang City Gate

A group of senior Japanese officers stood by the city gate, accepting photos of reporters with a proud look. The background is the Liaoyang City Gate, which has experienced vicissitudes.

Major General Jan Hamilton, the representative of the British Command in Japan, was also here, and he publicly stated, "I hope to experience the great last scene of the Manchurian War in person."

Major General Hamilton highly praised the victory of the Japanese army, and he asked Marshal Oyama Iwa, "Are you satisfied with the results of the Japanese army's operations?"

Dashanyan said disapprovingly; "But Er, the Russian army retreated too skillfully, and we have no chance to expand the results."

"I still want to congratulate you, His Excellency Marshal, for the Manchurian War is on the right track now, everything looks great, and we need to maintain such high momentum of offensive momentum."

"The situation is not that optimistic. Mr. General, the main force of the Russians' Nanman Group still exists, and their reinforcements continue to arrive. Even if 30,000 enemies were eliminated on the battlefield, the Russians can replenish them in one month." Marshal Oyama Iwa was not blinded by victory and said with a cold expression;

"In order to deal with the Tsarist Russian Baltic fleet, we must try our best to hoard enough combat supplies for three months and transport more troops to ashore to ensure the severe situation faced after the maritime transportation line is cut off.

At present, the 3rd Army was dragged outside the Lushun Fortress, resulting in the dispersion of our troops, which is a very passive situation.

It is expected to be the end of the year

The Tsarist Russian army will increase to more than 400,000, while our army can still maintain about 250,000 to 270,000, with a significant disadvantage.

The most urgent task is to resolve the battle at the Lushun Fortress as soon as possible, draw out the troops of the Third Army, join forces with the army, and gather heavy troops to prepare for a battle of Fengtian.

To this end, it is necessary to mobilize heavy artillery to smash the heavy defense of the Lushun Fortress. This is the top priority."

"I can do my best to do my best." Major General Hamilton made a very clear statement. He thought about it for a while and said. "I remember that heavy mortars with a caliber of more than 400 mm were used in the Civil War of the Ocean Empire, with dozens of them in the number. We can get these heavy artillery through official channels."

After hearing this, Marshal Dashanyan was overjoyed and said, "Please, the military situation in front is urgent. If we can get this batch of heavy artillery as soon as possible, we are confident that we will solve the Lushun Fortress within half a month."

"Marson, please wait for good news." Major General Hamilton smiled with a reserved look.

He is a qualified professional soldier, but not a politician. He does not know the unbreakable and chaotic relationship between the Ocean Empire and the Fusang Kingdom. Things are far from as simple as he said.

At this time, a cameraman walked over with a spotlight and a German-made Leica camera in his hand and said loudly, "His dignified Marshal and General, are I lucky enough to take a group photo for you?"

"Oh, no problem." Major General Hamilton, who was extremely tall, sorted out his military uniform in a good mood. Standing next to the short Marshal Dashanyan, it seemed like an adult was carrying a child, and it was very funny.

Marshal Oyama Iwara stood his saber with both hands, his face was dark and he didn't speak, and he looked stinky.

Seeing this scene, the cameraman wanted to die.
