Chapter 3 The Brotherhood

Chicago Police Department, Intelligence Unit.

Touch! A loud bang shocked the whole group. Sheriff Jason Boyt raised his fists and looked around, asking in a low and hoarse voice: "Everyone knows the case in the old factory in the West District last night. Kellyn, tell everyone about the discovery of CSI at the scene." A blond female police officer distributed the photos in her hand to everyone, and then picked up the report and said: "Last night, a vicious shooting occurred in an abandoned factory in the West District. 20 bodies were found on the scene. From the bullets and shells found on the scene, it was that the murderer used a 5.56×45mm caliber assault rifle. The 20 dead belonged to two gangs, the Mexican Gang and the Irish Gang. All the dead were shot in the head or chest and died on the spot. Judging from the guns carried by the deceased, it should have been done by a third party. Judging from the current situation, no more clues were left at the scene."

"The Mexican Gang and the Irish Gang should trade drugs in places like this. I'll go to the drug department to ask." After Boyte's head, a police officer pushed the door out. Another asked: "What can I find out from the source of the bullet?" "Nothing is, it should be smuggling arms." Kailolin replied. Then, the room fell into a brief silence. Boyt looked around and saw one of the officers thinking, and asked, "Joe, what do you think?"

A handsome and handsome black-haired police officer looked up at everyone, and then said, "From the clues left at the scene, I think this is a black-haired man, but unlike usual, the murderers are very professional and cooperate well, not like ordinary gangsters. I used to be in the anti-black group. As far as I know, there are few gangsters in Chicago that have such techniques. I want to go to the anti-black group to find out what clues are there."

"Okay," Boy nodded, "Everyone went to find an informant to inquire. No news would have been leaked for such a large drug deal. See if anyone knows who did it. Joe, come to me as soon as possible to find the clue, everyone moved." With a command, everyone walked out one after another.

About half an hour later, in the sheriff's room, Joe knocked in and put a document in front of Boyt, "Head, I found some clues. Brotherhood, the new gang that has just emerged in recent years, has a sphere of influence in the old town of north-central Chicago and Chinatown. There is no obvious difference in gang members, blacks, whites, Asians, and even Indians. Two years ago, they killed the old town of Scorpion Gang, and there were not many criminal records. What I care more about is that they have absorbed a large number of retired soldiers who are wandering on the streets or are heavily in debt. I suspect that they did this case." Boyt opened the folder and the first page was very impressive.

It was the black-haired man, Joe introduced: "This man suspected to be the leader of the Brotherhood, named Steve Lee, a Chinese American, orphan, and was later adopted by an old Chinese man in Chinatown. He had a pharmaceutical factory and a nightclub under his name, and had no criminal record." Turning on the second page, a man with distinct Indian characteristics, "Dana Blade, American Indian, the second-in-commander of the Brotherhood, was adopted with Steve, and had no criminal record." Page 3, the bald giant, "Locke Johnson, an American, retired soldier, had unknown records of service, the first thug in the Brotherhood, and there were many records of fighting."

Boyt looked at the blank behind and stared at Joe in confusion. "That's just a little information?" "Yes, this organization has just been established and there is no excessive criminal record. We don't have more information." "How did they kill the Scorpion Gang two years ago?" "In fact, we had no conclusive evidence at that time. Two years ago, the Scorpion Gang encountered a fire during a rally, and all the core members were killed. The fire brigade found that the fire was an explosion caused by a gas leak. After that, the Brotherhood quickly swallowed up the Scorpion Gang's territory. The bar where the fire broke out at that time was also converted into a nightclub by the Brotherhood. We infer from these suspicious points that the Brotherhood killed the Scorpion Gang, but there was no evidence." "Okay," Boyt stood up and put on his coat, "Let's go and meet this Brotherhood for a while." The two walked out of the police station and drove towards the neighborhood where Black and White were.

At the gate of the Black and White Club, two black men reached out to stop Boyt and the other two. "Sorry, sir, we don't have business hours now."

"Chicago Police, I am Sheriff Boyt, this is my police badge, he is my colleague, we have something to talk to your boss." Boyt lit up the police badge to the black security guard who blocked them.

"Okay, wait a moment." The black man turned around and picked up the intercom and whispered a few words, opened the door and turned around, "Please, Mr. Police Officer, our boss is waiting for two on the second floor."

Boyt and the other two walked through the club lobby to the manager's room upstairs. Another tall white security guard opened the door. This was a huge room. The panoramic floor-to-ceiling window on one side faced the club below. There were two rows of sofas and a coffee table in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. There was a bar counter opposite the floor-to-ceiling window. Various wines were placed in the wine cabinet. A black bartender was busy inside, as if studying new cocktails. Directly opposite the door was behind the boss's table, Steve Lee, the black-haired man, stood up with a smile: "Hello, Sheriff Boyt, please sit down. What do you need my help?"

"Hello, Mr. Li, we have a case and want your help." Boyt and the others sat on the sofa and the sheriff asked.

"Okay, no problem. As a law-abiding citizen, it is our duty to cooperate with the police. What do you two drink? Jack, have two of your best cocktails. Oh, by the way, I'll give me one too. Also, you can call me Steve directly." After Li finished giving the order, the black man behind the bar showed a row of white teeth and flew his hands to stir up the wine.

"Mr. Steve, we can't drink when we are on duty." Joe rejected Lee's kindness. Boyt glanced at him and said nothing, but continued to ask Lee: "Steve, let's get back to the point. Do you know what you know about the case that happened in the abandoned factory in the 28th block last night?"

"What should I know?" Li Yi looked puzzled. "Last night, I was invited to attend the Public Security Charity Dinner and came back late at night. Oh, by the way, I saw your Director at the banquet. I'm very sorry, I'm afraid I don't know much about any of the cases that happened last night."

Qiao asked with a serious look on his face: "Mr. Li, don't show off your identity. We know who you are, so don't pretend."

Li picked up the wine glass that Jack had just put on the coffee table and took a sip. His deep eyes were looking at Qiao tightly. Qiao looked at his eyes, and a sense of fear from the depths of his soul extended from the inside to the outside. Then Li slowly spoke, "Do you really know my identity? If you really know, you dare not talk to me like this. Young man, I think I have nothing to say to you, I will give you a look."

Boyt frowned deeply, looked at Joe, and said to him, "Joe, you go out first, I have something to talk to Mr. Li alone." In just a few seconds, Joe seemed to have been fighting back and forth from hell, and his sweat soaked his shirt. He stood up and walked out with his hands and feet stiffly, unable to say a word.

Boyt turned around, looked directly into Li's eyes, and whispered: "Mr. Li, maybe you have heard of me. I am not a person who sticks to the rules and doesn't want to go around the corner." He paused, as if thinking about the words, "Your gang does not have many bad records, no drugs, no disturbances to ordinary people, and has given some homeless people the opportunity to work. Of course, this job may not be very clean, but you can see that you have a bottom line. I hope you can maintain this bottom line and not harass civilians. This is an agreement we have reached. I will not easily cause trouble for you, and can even give you some convenience. At the same time, I also hope that you can provide me with some help in moderation. What do you think of this transaction?"

Li Jing thought for a while, and looked at Boyt with the deep look he had just looked at Joe. The sheriff did not react and still looked straight at him. He blinked his eyes, and the invisible pressure disappeared without a trace. "Okay, Sheriff Boyt, although it doesn't seem important to admit it now, it seems that you have some understanding of our behavior. We do not intend to influence civilians, because there are many civilians or even lower-level people among us, and our purpose is not to trample on social order. On the contrary, some of our behaviors have made this society more stable, right? We just want to survive in this society and solve some problems that society cannot solve. Of course, the method is not necessarily legal, but if you want to arrest us, you have to find evidence yourself." The shallow and warm smile appeared on his face again.

Boyt looked at Lee helplessly, sighed, and stood up: "Okay, it seems you don't plan to say anything. This case has ended here, and I won't harass you again. However, I don't want to see the missing drugs in Chicago appear on the streets or at anybody's party again in the streets or at anybody's party." "You can rest assured that this is, I don't like drugs either." Li also stood up and shook hands with Boyt, "Of course, I hope you will come to me as a friend next time. I will always be open to you here. This is my business card. Just call me directly if you have something. By the way, you can get a 20% discount on the wine card with your business card."

Boyt shook his head with a wry smile, walked downstairs and walked out of the door, looked at Joe who was absent-minded, and then looked back at Lee at the window on the second floor, and whispered: "I hope you will be an exception, otherwise the damage you will bring to this city will be more severe."
