Chapter 57 Prison No. 7

Yu Dong finished writing his reply and first read "Science Fiction World" briefly.
The layout is very messy and there are a lot of things crammed in. This is a common problem in many magazines nowadays.
But this can be considered a benefit, because there are things stuffed in every corner, and readers can occasionally find something new and novel when they buy the book back.
In addition to the published novels, there is also a social page and a promotional event page. This kind of page is particularly important for today's magazines, and it is also the only channel for many readers to communicate.
After flipping through the pages, Yu Dong put down the magazine first and then took out the grid paper he used for writing from the drawer.
He can no longer remember which copy of the grid paper he bought. For the novels "The Second World", he used nearly two thousand pieces of paper for the rough draft alone.
These papers filled with writing were all piled in the corner of the dormitory, with two layers of snakeskin bags placed under them to prevent the ground from getting wet again.
Yu Dong first wrote the words Hou Yi on one piece of paper, and then wrote the words Prison No. 7 on another piece of paper.
Holding two pieces of paper, Yu Dong thought for a long time and finally put the paper with "Hou Yi" written on it aside.
“Hou Yi” and “Prison No. 7” represent two novels. The former is being conceived by Yu Dong, while the latter has been written by Yu Dong in his previous life.
Just now he was thinking about which one to write first, and finally decided to write the simple one first. He had written "Prison No. 7" before, and although he couldn't remember everything, he could write it again with ease.
"Prison No. 7", as the name suggests, this is a novel about a prison.
The story tells that in the not-too-distant future, human society and civilization are highly developed, and the pursuit of human rights has reached an extreme level.
In order to safeguard the human rights of prisoners, the government decided to establish a "Prison No. 7" specifically to hold prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment. Moreover, there is no commutation of sentences in this prison, which means that once a prisoner enters this prison, he will never be released again.
No chance to get out.
The prisoners will spend their entire lives in this prison.
Different from other prisons, Prison No. 7 quickly became an "Internet celebrity" as soon as it was established, and the government is sparing no effort to promote this prison to prisoners.
People sometimes even see the promotion advertisement of Prison No. 7 on the advertising screens on the road, and hear the absurd slogan.
“Prison No. 7—Let every prisoner be happy.”
People are full of curiosity about this prison, but there are only two ways to learn about it, either becoming a prison staff or becoming a life-sentence prisoner.
The former is very difficult. This prison does not recruit people at all.
The latter is easier, but no one is willing to do this stupid thing.
The protagonist Lin An is a Ph.D. in physics who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife, and then he voluntarily chose to enter Prison No. 7 to serve his sentence.
From the first day Lin An entered Prison No. 7, people kept telling him not to worry, Prison No. 7 was not established for punishment, but for redemption, and he could find happiness there.
Lin An didn’t quite believe this argument. He chose to come in out of strong curiosity.
In the first month after being imprisoned, nothing special happened. Life here seemed to be no different from other prisons.
In addition to being in a daze in the cell every day, he would also be taken out for two hours to relax.
Although life without freedom is boring, Lin An still lives his life as usual every day.
But from one day onwards, the prison guards began to make things difficult for them, the prisoners, and made them work every day. If they did not go as planned, they would use stun guns to punish them.
Lin An had the idea of escape from prison, and he began to observe everything in the prison. Later, he discovered that the soil under the squat toilet in the toilet was very soft, and the prison guards rarely came to his single cell.
He began to dig the soil, and the excavated soil was washed out through the water pipe.
It took him two years to dig a tunnel under the toilet and escape.
After getting out, facing pursuit from all sides, he hid his identity and fled abroad, and then restarted his life abroad.
The story is not over yet. The novel returns to Prison No. 7, the cell where Lin An is imprisoned.
There is a big screen in the cell, which is playing pictures of Lin An living abroad. There are two people in front of the big screen. Standing is the prison administrator Jiang Nan, and lying down is Lin An wearing a virtual helmet.
It turns out that everything before was fake, but a virtual dream carefully prepared by Prison No. 7 for Lin An, with the intention of making him think that he was free.
After completing the task, the administrator Jiang Nan breathed a sigh of relief. He did not dare to relax when dealing with each prisoner, for fear that any detail would be noticed by the prisoner.
After working overtime for several days, Jiang Nan is going home to have a good rest and spend time with his wife and children.
But while driving home, he suddenly noticed that the road ahead flickered a few times.
 …
The story is actually very simple. There is a prison that uses virtual dreams to detain prisoners, allowing them to believe that they have successfully escaped from prison and gained freedom, in order to make them happy.
However, on the way home, the manager Jiang Nan discovered signs that he was also in a virtual dream.
This novel was written by Yu Dong after he watched "Inception" and was inspired to write it. In fact, the story is similar to the double dream in "Inception".
In other words, this inspiration can be traced back to the earlier "Zhuang Zhou's Dream of Butterflies".
While writing this novel, Yu Dong was also thinking about what human existence is.
Descartes said, I think, therefore I am.
So does "Lin An" in the virtual dream also exist in real life? For him in the dream, everything in the dream is reality.
At this point, "Prison No. 7" and "Second World" are actually the same. People are seeking themselves and pursuing the truth in the virtual world.
However, Yu Dong was a little dissatisfied with the "Prison No. 7" he wrote before. When he wrote it, he only considered the reversal of the final ending, but ignored the structure of the early plot. In this way, before the ending comes, the readers are distracted.
Left in the dark, they will only see an ordinary jailbreak process.
Even if the plot is reversed in the end, readers will just slap their heads and exclaim that it is so, but they will not remember the plot of the entire novel deeply enough.
So this time he rewrote and decided to make the previous part more readable.
It cannot be kept hidden from the readers, but readers must use their perspective to find all traces and revelations in the previous plots, leading them to guess what is not simple about Prison No. 7.
