570. Vineyard development (5/10, ask for monthly pass)

After seeing off Heywood and the others, Qin Shiou continued to go back to plan the construction of the fishing grounds. At the same time, he called Bill Sachy, the account manager of Dick Sea Aquatic Vegetation Company. Although he mainly deals in marine aquatic vegetation, he belongs to agriculture after all, and he also knows about vineyard planting.
When he learned that Qin Shiou wanted to develop a vineyard, Bill, who had been rushing to the road, laughed and waved his hand and said, "No, no, Qin, this is not suitable. Most of the vineyards in Canada are concentrated in the south, and the farewell island is even in the south of the south, but this is not suitable."
"Why?"
"You are right by the sea! You can't plant vineyards by the sea. The moisture is too heavy at night and grapes cannot stand such moisture. They will not die, but the taste they grow is very poor and is particularly bitter!" Bill explained.
Hearing that, Qin Shiou shrugged and did not accept this explanation. Yes, he knew that the seaside was not suitable for planting vineyards. Canadian vineyards were mainly concentrated near the southern lake area - this is because large waters can alleviate the extreme cold weather in Canada in winter and early spring and protect the vines.
In addition, the lake area is different from the ocean, and they all have water, but one has no wind and one has strong winds, and one has no sea tide and one has strong tides. These are two different environments.
In fact, Canada is not suitable for developing vineyards. In the vast country, it is more than 10 million square kilometers, but it only has four important winemaking sources, namely Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Quebec.
Among them, Ontario is the most important, accounting for about 75% of the national production capacity, and only Ontario and British Columbia are produced in accordance with the Canadian wine quality standards.
Even in these two provinces, the best dry red and dry white can be produced, and the main one is ice wine. Of course, Qin Shiou developed vineyards, and in addition to planting some edible grapes he ate, the others also focused on making ice wine.
Qin Shiou didn't care about the taste of grapes produced on the coast. What he wanted was to survive as long as he could survive. With the energy of the sea god, the grapes produced were absolutely delicious.
Bill explained. Qin Shiou didn't listen and just asked him how to develop vineyards and which grapes are more suitable to choose.
Qin Shiou looked up information. Before the 1980s, most of the grapes grown in Canada were cold-resistant American varieties. However, the wines produced by these varieties of grapes had astringent and sour taste. Therefore, after the 1980s, European wine-making grape varieties gradually became the mainstream of planting.
Of course, the so-called European grape varieties chosen by Canadian vineyard owners are also hybrids, such as the red grape varieties Black Barco and Mareschar-Fosh hybrids, and the white grape white Seva and Widale hybrids, which are cold-resistant.
White grape varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurzer and Pinot Grizzled, and red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. These pure raw high-quality European wine grapes cannot survive in the bitter cold climate of Canada.
Qin Shiou didn't care about these things, he would choose whatever grape variety he had, and asked Bill to recommend the best grape variety to him.
Seeing that he was stubborn, Bill could only shrug and say, "The customer is God." Then he called his friend in the grape planting industry and recommended several varieties to Qin Shiou.
Qin Shiou decided to choose the varieties he ate mainly chose North American Red Diet, a delicious grape that emerged from California, USA, and is now sold all over the world. But this grape is not cold-resistant. Bill is not optimistic about surviving on the farewell island.
Qin Shiou chose two types of grapes to make. Red grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon and white grapes are Riesling. These two grapes are the most famous brewing grapes.
Bill suggested that Qin Shiou choose Widale, a hybrid grape. Now, ice wineries in Ontario are basically grown.
Qin Shiou studied it and found that Vidale's grapes mature slowly and have strong resistance to severe cold, and are very suitable for survival in severe cold areas. In addition, its skin is thick, not easy to rot, and easy to preserve. After ripening, it can still hang branches for three or four months to resist the invasion of severe cold in high-latitude areas, so it is often used as brewing ice wine.
However, the ice wine brewed by Vidale is too acidic and too sweet, and lacks the fragrance of wine and the fragrance of flowers and plants, which Qin Shiou doesn't like.
In contrast, the Riesling variety is much better, and the grapes are also ripe slowly, but the wine it produces has a very delicate taste and aroma.
Moreover, Riesling, a grape, needs a long and cool climate to form its elegant flavor, which can maintain a high acidity in the grape during the period, balance the sweetness in the ice wine well, making the wine full and layered, and has an amazing fragrance.
But Riesling is very slutty and always reduces production due to sunlight, temperature and epidemics, so it has not been popular in Canada.
Qin Shiou knew that there was a tiger on the mountain and he was walking towards Tiger Mountain, so he chose these delicate varieties.
In addition, in addition to their famous and good taste, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon are also selected, which is that they are both suitable for growing in sand and are just suitable for fishing environments.
After choosing the grape variety, Qin Shiou asked Bill to help him purchase grape seedlings. He and the fishermen reclaimed the small highland and built it according to the requirements of the vineyard.
Grapes like light, vineyards require wind and good lighting conditions. This small highland completely meets the standards, and the terrain is high and it is not easy to accumulate water. After the drainage ditches are built, the impact will not be great even if the heavy rains attack it.
The time for planting grape seedlings is most suitable after the fallen leaves in autumn or before the spring sprouts. Spring in Canada comes later, and this is also the germination period, so it is not the end of planting seedlings by hand.
Qin Shiou is divided into eight planting areas with a height of 150 acres. Basically, one planting area is about twenty acres. One planting area grows edible grapes, mainly red grapes, and other black grapes and green grapes. There are also more than twenty varieties in total.
The remaining seven planting areas are all used to grow and brew grapes. Shaq drove the entire land with a rotary tiller. The rotary tiller rolled and turned it quickly, chopping the sandy land that had not been used for a long time into extremely delicate details.
Occasionally, stones, shells and other things are drawn out in some places, and the sea monsters behind them will drive a car with nail-tooth rakes to clean them out.
At this time, we can see the importance of pickup trucks. These farm tools can be connected to pickup trucks for use.
After plowing the land, Shaq set up the boundary of the operation area, and used a suppressor to smash roads. Later, people and cars entered the plantation and walked from these roads.
The roads in the work area are flat and straight, either parallel or vertical, cutting the entire vineyard into small squares.
The work has been going on now, and only the preparations have been made. Qin Shiou bought enough wood from St. Johns, and then used a pile driver to plant all the wood into the land, pulling steel bars and wires between them for grapes to climb in the future.
In this way, the rest of the work is to wait for the arrival of the grape seedlings. (To be continued)
