Chapter 4 A New Life A New Beginning

Don’t think that the life of a Taoist chanting scripture can be very leisurely. There is no problem with leisure, but the homework you should recite must keep up, otherwise your future will be bad.

According to Wujiyuan - in fact, it is also the common rules of the entire Taoist palace. The Jingtang has monthly exams every month and annual exams every year. The results obtained will be recorded in the file. Listed as first-class, you can go out for rituals with high merit. That is a good job, and future achievements are expected; listed as second-class, without any pain or itching, and do whatever you should do; if you are unfortunately in third-class, the monthly monthly exam will be reduced by half, three consecutive three-class, and the monthly exam will be confiscated for three consecutive three-class, and then you will be fined three consecutive three-class, and you will be discharged from the hospital!

Of course, the chance of the last situation is extremely small. Unless you are really stupid and offend the highest level of merit in the sutra hall, from the sutra master, Jing master and other professors to death, they will generally be proud of your hands at critical moments and let you go.

Although Taoist priests are rarely opened in Taoist priests, if they have poor grades, they will have a great impact on their future future. At least when there is a chance of relocation, such as if there is a vacant position in the "Five Lords and Eighteen Heads", if the grades are not good, then don't think about it.

However, it cannot be generalized. There are also some vocational responsibilities that will be selected from those with poor grades. For example, when Zhao Ran’s earliest supervisor, Zhou Guotou, was chanting scriptures in the scripture hall, his monthly exam scores were extremely poor every year. He recited scriptures for ten years and ranked third in the third grade more than 30 times a month, and half of the annual exam scores were below the red line. When the supervisor saw that he was indeed not a material for chanting scriptures, he simply asked him to take care of the sweeping gate. This must be a punishment rather than a reward.

Zhao Ran and Zhu Meng are both new Taoist chanting children. They don’t have to take the monthly exam within three months, but after this period, they have to pick up their pens and go on stage. However, the first test paper answered was Class B - this is the exam prepared by the Sutra Hall for Taoist chanting children with less than three years of experience. After three years, they will be replaced with Class A test questions.

Zhao Ran did not delay his homework. On the first night, he read the scriptures in the Sutra Library until late at night. It was during this night that he confirmed his changes - his memory was excellent!

After reading the "My Moral Sutra" for two months, Zhao Ran could not recite it in order in the past, but after reading it twice tonight, he could recite it silently! He was so moved that his eyes were filled with tears. This was a big killer weapon. When the golden fingers opened, the vast Taoist scriptures were no longer a problem. Isn't it like a game in the monthly exam? It's definitely easy to get it!

The next day, as soon as Zhao Ran's morning homework was over, he immediately rushed to the Sutra Library. He recited the "My Meaningful Sutra" silently and found that his memory had not subsided. He immediately calmed down and then found out the "Laozi Xianger Notes" and began to read it again.

"Si'er Notes" is no longer the same as "The True Sutra of the Morality". It is an explanation and development of every sentence in the "The True Sutra", and the full text is much longer. There are only two volumes of "Si'er Notes", but there are more than ten volumes of "Si'er Notes". Zhao Ran piled it on his chest, and the top volume was almost over to his chin. It took him seven days to recite the complete set of "Si'er Notes", and then he spent another three days to compare the "Si'er Notes" with "Si'er Notes" and recite it silently before and after, and it was clear that he picked up the "Laozi's West Sutra" again.

During this period, Zhao Ran also saw Zhu Meng in the Sutra Tower every day, but this guy was far from as hard as Zhao Ran's reading of the Sutra Tower. He usually took a pot of tea and picked up a few scriptures on the second floor of the Sutra Tower, read them casually. He read them for two hours when he was in high spirits, and stayed in the Sutra Tower for less than half an hour.

Every time Zhao Ran saw Zhu Meng leaving early, he laughed in his heart and was also ruthless - I have golden fingers and work harder than you, so I have to see what you will do in the monthly exam, how better your bones are than me!

In addition to studying hard, Zhao Ran also looked for channels to understand what "roots and bones" are and what "qualifications" are. He asked Yu Zhiyuan for advice on this, but Yu Zhiyuan was not a person with roots and bones, so his explanation was also very vague - the speaker doesn't even understand himself, and you want the listener to understand, is it possible?

He found no answer from Yu Zhiyuan, so he asked Yu Mo in the letter.

Yu Mo's explanation is very detailed, but Zhao Ran still thinks it is very mysterious. Yu Mo's explanation is: the so-called "good roots and bones" means that the bones and meridians in the human body are in harmony with the way of heaven, and "good qualifications" means that people have strong understanding and can be understood at a glance. To sum up, it means that this person is in harmony with the way of heaven, and has no stagnation in communication between inside and outside, and has a strong ability to understand Taoism.

For example, people who learn talismans and spells are also good at learning, and those with good qualifications can learn it once, but they will not learn it no matter how they learn it. Yu Mo's experience is that it feels like everything is "natural".

Zhao Ran could understand this explanation, but could not understand it, so he changed his perspective and asked Yu Mo what the most prominent manifestation of those who practice Taoism with good roots and bones and good qualifications were when practicing, such as - do you think your brain is particularly clear, your memory is very good, and your eyesight and ears are particularly strong?

Yu Mo's reply said that good memory and strong eyesight and ears are the "fruit" after practicing Taoism, not the "cause", and are the appearance that appears after practicing. Root bones and qualifications are the "cause", which is the reason why the practice can be smoothly carried out. Just like the reason why peach trees bear peaches because the tree is a peach tree. If it is replaced by a pear tree, the fruit will be peaches. If the memory and strong eyesight and ears are peaches or pears, and root bones and qualifications are peaches or pears.

After this explanation, Zhao Ran roughly understood a little. It turned out that he was still not qualified. But he soon became confused again. He was neither a peach tree nor a pear tree, so how could he produce peaches and pears? This is unscientific!

If he doesn't understand, he won't think about it for the time being. Zhao Ran decided to ask in person if he has the opportunity in the future. He remembered that Chu Yangcheng looked at him and said that his roots and bones were not good and his qualifications were poor. This means that those in the practice should have some way to judge whether a person has roots and bones through vision. Then let Yu Mo help him see it.

Because opportunities are hard-won, Zhao Ran wanted to seize them desperately. For a "pseudo-background" person who has the memory of a golden finger, Zhao Ran's only choice is to study hard, hoping to establish himself in the Taoist sect with the true ability of "scriptures".

In the next three months, he spent all his time at his disposal and piled up all into the Sutra Library. He also recited five or six important classics and more than ten related annotations in succession.

Among them, the "Tao Moral Sutra", "Nanhua True Sutra", "Chongxu True Sutra" and "Tongxuan True Sutra". These four classics, aliased by the Taoist sect are "Laozi", "Zhuangzi", "Liezi" and "Wenzi", are regarded as the "Four Sons True Sutra" by Taoism. They are the most fundamental core works of Taoism and the basis for all Taoist academics, rituals, talismans, spells, magic, and even self-cultivation.

In the view of Zhao Ran, the "Pseudo-believer", the "Tao-My True Sutra" is the most mysterious, the "Nanhua True Sutra" has the most literary talent, the "Chongxu Zhide Jing" has a wonderful meaning, and the "Tongxuan True Sutra" has the most famous sayings and aphorisms. It is still very interesting to read and recite carefully.

What he disliked the most was the annotation and interpretation of these four true scriptures by later generations. From the perspective of a time traveler of false beliefs, there were a lot of far-fetched explanations, which were tugging hard and chewing. But when he was in the head, Zhao Ran had to memorize these things since he was sitting on the seat of a Taoist chanting scripture, he had to memorize these things.

After three months, I studied hard and remembered more than 20 works, totaling hundreds of thousands of words. If this skill was placed in the world where Zhao Ran traveled, it would be enough to make him famous and prosperous. You must know that this is the most obscure Taoist scripture! Even if it was placed in Wuji Courtyard, the Taoist priests read more scriptures than him, but there are definitely only a handful of those who can recite these scriptures and notes without missing a word.

In the Sutra Library, among the Taoist chanting children Zhao Ran met, only Ma Zhili had such a foundation, but Ma Zhili had entered the Sutra Hall for nearly eight years, and the learning progress of the two was incomparable. Most of the rest, especially the young fat Taoist priest and the skinny old Taoist priest who Zhao Ran noticed in the evening class of the Sutra Hall the day before, had already been behind Zhao Ran.

As for Zhu Meng, one night, Zhao Ran couldn't help but provoke this guy, and after he humiliated him in reciting scriptures, the guy also began to work hard, and the time he spent in the Sutra Library to read the scriptures doubled every day.

Zhao Ran never looked forward to the arrival of the first monthly exam in his Taoist career as he did today. This is the arrogant and arrogant ** who has the golden fingers to refresh his pleasure. This feeling... is really good!

Thank you to Yangzhigang and Tinghai’s songs for the rewards. Lao Fan has been very busy with work recently and it is difficult to update. Please forgive me. I am really sorry and ashamed!
