Chapter 503 K-8 Power
Drones require inertial navigation, which is a necessary equipment for autonomous flight. The gyros used by college students to make model aircraft can only be the cheapest model bought on the market. The performance is very poor, so there will be a large cumulative error, resulting in deviations in flight. If they were given military models, today's situation would not have happened.
Mhamad looked at the other party's drone, and then at the remote control. Unlike the remote control of an ordinary model aircraft, there is actually an LCD screen on the panel of this remote control! It must be showing the various flight data of the model aircraft.
Looking at these college students, Mhamad was very satisfied: "You are doing a good job. Do you want to be a larger model aircraft?"
The president of the larger model aircraft association immediately became happy: "How big is it?"
"It's as big as the plane in front of your school gate." Mhamad said.
"Of course I do!" The president of the Model Aircraft Association immediately replied: "We really hope to be able to control larger aircraft!"
"Okay, this project can be established at the university, with your model aircraft association as the backbone, and more people can join. If you have any questions, you can ask your teachers, airlines, and even the Air Force that the equipment and funds needed will be provided by the country." Mhamad said: "I look forward to seeing you able to use such large aircraft to unmanned flights."
The plane at the school gate is J-6! Mhamad almost thought of the use of these retired J-6 almost instantly.
In history, Pakistan has the largest J-6 fleet except China. These J-6 fighters played a great role in several India-Pakistan wars. Although it has been repeatedly improved and can even be equipped with Western missiles, this fighter has fallen behind after all, with a maximum speed of less than Mach 15, and the nose air intake cannot be equipped with radar, and the range is limited. Therefore, the aircraft model destined to be eliminated. After Pakistan purchased the Tomcat fighter and the F-16, the J-6 has almost withdrawn from active service.
These J-6 were sealed off. They are not of much use, so why not convert them into drones like China? When there is war, you can use these J-6 as the first batch of cannon fodder to attract the opponent's air defense forces to open fire, expose their position and radar parameters. This is how Israel did in the Middle East War.
Don’t underestimate college students, they are very creative. When Mhamad saw that the model aircraft they made themselves had met the standards of drones, he was inspired and decided to let them get in touch with this big guy.
"Isn't that a fighter? That's great!" said the female association member: "What I want to fly the most is fighter! Unfortunately, when I was recruiting, I didn't recruit female pilots. That's why I was admitted to the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics."
No female pilots are recruited! Pilots have very high requirements for physical quality. Many women are not suitable for flying planes due to their physiological characteristics. However, this is not absolute. In China and the United States, there are female pilots, and even female astronauts. Pakistan does not recruit female pilots, because it is probably because of the influence of customs.
After hearing the words of this female association member, Mhamad immediately made up his mind. After going back, he discussed with Old Arslan to open up these restrictions so that women can play a role like men. He can play a role in these fields without too many, just a few, which represents an official attitude after all.
There are not as many advanced electronic equipment as in later generations, so Mhamad's temporary requirement is to allow them to improve and exit the J-6 drone, and various advanced reconnaissance equipment can be added later. Large drones like Global Hawk also require the accumulation of the entire aviation industry, and they cannot be so fast.
Leaving the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mhamad's mind is still thinking quickly. Universities are not just teaching, but more of them will play the role of scientific research institutions. The academic atmosphere of universities should be mobilized! In this way, Pakistan's scientific and technological level will be further improved.
After returning to the presidential palace, Mhamad called Old Arslan and planned to discuss with him the J-6 drone and female pilot he had imagined, but saw Old Arslan first reported to him.
"We have already contacted China's Nanchang Airlines. Their Jiao-8 aircraft is in the development stage, but now, we have encountered a big problem." Old Arslan said.
Although there was no cooperation from Pakistan, Nanchang Airlines was still developing this new trainer aircraft. They were very visionary, just like in later generations, they also raised their own funds to develop higher education aircraft.
"What's the problem?" Mhamad frowned and asked Old Arslan.
"They lack a suitable engine." Old Arslan told Mhamad: "Their fuselage and other designs have been completed, but there is no suitable engine to replace them. General Electric of the United States provided them with the cj610-8a turbojet engine. They also conducted matching tests between the aircraft's intake and the engine and created a wooden prototype equipped with the cj610-8a. However, this engine is a turbojet engine with high fuel consumption and is not suitable for trainers, otherwise the training cost will be too high. At the same time, they also conducted a plan to equip the Canadian Pratt & Whitney JT15d engine, that is, the jt15d-2/3 thrust is too small, and the jt15d-5 is not yet mature, so this aircraft has always been limited to the engine."
Engine! Almost all military aircraft development in China is stuck on the engine. Without an engine, any advanced aircraft can't reach the design level. Fortunately, Mhamad's time travel allowed China to thoroughly understand the SB engine and also improved the model of the high-thrust TF-41. The No. 10 domestic engineering project is designed based on the TF-41 engine.
However, the engines used by trainers are lightweight, and the thrust is enough for more than 20 thousand N. The engines prepared for fighters are not suitable for them. The United States still does not support the development of China's own technology. Therefore, the engines provided are just turbojet engines. This kind of engine consumes a high fuel consumption rate and is OK to use fighters, but the trainer is too wasteful and the training cost is too high.
This is also true in history. At the beginning of design, Nanchang Airlines knew that the engine determines the success or failure of the development of this aircraft, so it did not intend to use domestic supporting engines. It targeted international engines from the beginning. After all, in the 1980s, China and the West were in a honeymoon period and could introduce engines from the West. However, unexpectedly, the United States still took out turbojet engines for them to fool them.
It was not until Pakistan cooperated with them that it was the introduction of advanced turbofan engines from the United States, allowing the K-8 project to continue successfully. Moreover, the aircraft performed well and sold to many countries, and became a special aircraft for Pakistan's flight performance team. However, the United States did not agree to let China use this engine for its own use and only exported. Therefore, the K-8 equipped in China can only use its own engine. Fortunately, it was already in the 1990s and the Soviet Union collapsed. China introduced the Ai-25tl engine from Ukraine and imitated it into the turbofan-11. The performance of this engine is lower than that of the US. The Bayi Flight Performance Team also inspected this aircraft and finally gave up.
Now, China is still stuck on the engine. Nanchang Airlines hopes to develop an advanced trainer, but it is a cook without rice.
"Is there any better engine?" asked Mhamad. "There should be engines with excellent performance in the international market?"
"Yes, the TFE731-2a engine of the Garrett Turbo Engine Company in the United States is the most suitable engine they think. However, Garrett Turbo Engine Company is not very enthusiastic about them. They have also proposed a cooperation intention, but the other party ignored it at all." Old Arslan said.
Garret's TFE731 engine is a world-famous light turbofan engine. In later generations, it was equipped with a variety of aircraft, such as the K-8 single-engine trainer, Taiwan's At-3 twin-engine advanced trainer/close support aircraft, Spain's C101 single-engine trainer/close support aircraft, the IA63/AT-63 single-engine advanced trainer/light attack aircraft developed by Argentina, the Czech L-139 "Albatross" single-engine trainer, etc.
In addition to trainer aircraft, there are also a series of business aircraft, such as the French Dassault Falcon 10/100/20/50/900, the United States' "Certificate" 3/6/7 and "Sabres" 65/85, Canada's Bombardier's "Leil Jet" 31/35/36/45/55, Israel's IAI1124 "Westerly" and "Astra" 1/2, etc. The TFE731 is almost considered a standard business aircraft and trainer aircraft power unit. Even the improved engine model is used by Taiwan on its own IIDF fighter jets.
If this engine can be installed on the 8, the aircraft's performance can be quite excellent. Unfortunately, the American Garrett Turbine Engine Company is cold-hearted.
Mhamad said: "Since this engine is good, we will intervene and negotiate with the United States to tell the United States that Pakistan wants to prepare trainers for this engine, at least fifty. At the same time, we can also promote it to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other countries. The potential purchase number is more than 200. We hope that the United States can export such engines, and we hope that they can export production lines of this engine. Even if the amount is higher, it doesn't matter." (To be continued.)
