Discuss with you Zhao Yun
As the title states, the plot of this volume of the Yizhou Pingding Battle has ended. The next chapter will start a new plot, and then we will write about the great official position.
Therefore, Feng Xi plans to discuss with you the life of Zhao Yun, and also share my views after my own research.
To tell about Zhao Yun, it is inseparable from the fictional characters and official historical characters.
Let’s talk about Zhao Yun in Romance first.
In the novel Zhao Yun, he debuted as a young man and became a master of marksmanship. He directly fought with Wen Chou for dozens of times without deciding the outcome. This is an achievement in martial arts.
Then will Liu Bei reuse him?
The answer is, of course, very important.
Judging from the close relationship in the novel, Zhao Yun and Liu Guanzhang's friendship is comparable to that of Taoyuan, except that they do not have the friendship in Taoyuan.
In terms of personality, he is also wise and courageous, calm and calm, and loyal.
Then let’s talk about the official history.
According to official history, the relationship between Zhao Yun and Liu Bei is actually very close, but it is also very hazy and subtle.
Many people on the Internet use remarks such as Zhao Yun is just a bodyguard and a general with no rank in his life to prove that he is not reused.
There are also remarks that Zhao Yun is not capable...
In fact, will Zhao Yun be reused?
Feng Xilai gave a few examples to illustrate:
From the beginning when Zhao Yun followed Liu Bei to rescue Xuzhou, he served as the cavalry chief (that is, in charge of the cavalry). Considering that before Liu Bei took control of Xuzhou, he did not have too many troops, so he still needed to borrow troops from Gongsun Zan.
It can be concluded that for Zhao Yun at that time, the role of the main cavalry rider was already considered important.
After that, Zhao Yun returned to Hebei due to the death of his brother. It was not until Liu Bei took refuge with Yuan Shao that he officially began to serve under Liu Bei's account.
After the defeat of Changbanpo, historical records recorded that Zhao Yun's official position was Yamenjiang, which was regarded as an official position with little value.
After the great victory at Chibi, Liu Bei conquered the four counties of Jingnan and took over half of Nanjun.
This is considered the period when the Liu Bei Group's business is at its peak.
Zhao Yun was named a partial general and also served as the governor of Guiyang.
Here comes the key point: Zhao Yun at this time is a very important and powerful person.
Because at this time Guan Yu was the general who defeated the bandits, Zhang Fei was the general who conquered the captives, and then Zhuge Liang and Pang Tong were jointly ranked as the generals of the army.
The miscellaneous general is one level higher than the partial general, and the partial general is on the same level as the zhonglang general.
In other words, at this time, Zhao Yun's status was slightly lower than that of Guan and Zhang, on the same level as Zhuge Liang and Pang Tong, and he was also in charge of a county, making him a very powerful figure.
So here we can refute several of the above statements.
Zhao Yun did command the personal guards, but he was not only responsible for protecting the safety of Liu Bei and his family, he could also do things such as military command or internal affairs, and was also highly used.
As for being incapable, that is even more ridiculous. It is completely untenable and has no convincing power at all.
Okay, next is the official sealing after Yizhou was pacified.
During this period, Zhao Yun actually had no major problems with his official position.
Zhao Yun's miscellaneous name Yijun General at this time was Liu Bei's own creation, but if you look at the official positions of other people at the same time, you can find something. For example, Zhuge Liang's Military Advisor General and Mi Zhu's Anhan General were also Liu Bei's own creations.
There are many others who have mixed names, and they are basically created by Liu Bei. You can look up the details by yourself, so I won’t list them one by one.
Here comes the real problem, which is the ensuing Battle of Hanzhong. During the seven or eight years until Liu Bei became emperor, Zhao Yun has always been the general of Yijun and has never changed.
Even the official positions of Wei Yan and Li Yan far surpassed Zhao Yun at this stage.
It was not until Adou succeeded to the throne and Zhuge Liang came to power that Zhao Yun was given the official position of General of the Central Army and Zhendong.
Therefore, we can conclude that in the eight years from 215 to 223, that is, the period from the Battle of Hanzhong to the Tuogu period in Baidi City, Zhao Yun's official position has been stagnant. What happened during this period?
I have summarized a few statements that everyone is familiar with.
The first theory is that when Liu Bei of Xuzhou was attacked by Lu Bu, defeated in Haixi, he was impoverished and almost starved to death, Zhao Yun was not there, and Liu Bei happened to value this kindness the most.
The reason is: Guan Zhang, Jian Yong, Sun Qian and others who were loyal to Liu Bei in Haixi, as well as Mi Zhu who supported him unconditionally, all received extremely grand favors after Yizhou was pacified.
The second theory: After pacifying Yizhou, Zhao Yun used Huo Qubing's allusion to persuade him to divide the land among the generals. As a result, he was squeezed out in the subsequent political situation and his official career stagnated.
I think these two statements are a bit "overgeneralizing". My opinion can be used as a reference, but the credibility is not high.
Next, Feng Xi will talk about my views on this part of Zhao Yun’s official career stagnation.
First, Feng Xi believes that Zhao Yun is similar to Xun Yu. On the one hand, they are loyal to their lord, but on the other hand, they also have their own ideals, which is to support the Han Dynasty.
Reason 1: After Yizhou was pacified, Zhao Yun used Huo Qubing's allusion and persuaded Liu Bei not to divide the land among the generals because the important event had not yet occurred.
The major events here basically refer to the fact that the Northern Expedition has not yet succeeded and the Han Dynasty has not yet been revived.
Reason 2: When Liu Bei attacked Wu, Zhao Yun advised him, but Zhao Yun was not against the war. He probably meant that the main enemy was Cao Wei, and he should concentrate his efforts to destroy Wei first. As for Soochow, he could solve it later. That is to say, he advised Liu Bei distinguished the main contradictions.
From these two points, it is not difficult to see that Zhao Yun and Xun Yu are very similar. They are both loyal to their lords, but their political ideals are also very clear.
The second point is that I think there is a flaw in Zhao Yun's deeds, which caused Chen Shou to basically skip the past eight years when he recorded Zhao Yun's biography.
Because the Shu Han Dynasty did not have historians, it is normal for there to be missing deeds, and Chen Shou did not have conclusive records, so he would not record them.
This difference can be seen from the annotations of the Three Kingdoms and Pei Song.
In the part about the Battle of Hanzhong, the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms does not mention Zhao Yun at all, but Pei's note clearly records that Zhao Yun participated in the Battle of Hanzhong and made considerable contributions to the Han River. Therefore, Liu Bei praised him as "Zilong is a hero." "Courage" evaluation.
Then the problem came and Pei Zhu did not follow up.
According to Pei Zhu's records, Zhao Yun made great contributions in this battle and the results were brilliant. However, after the war, neither the Three Kingdoms nor Pei Zhu received any rewards, and Zhao Yun was still a miscellaneous figure. Is this reasonable?
So Fengxi has three guesses here. One is that Zhao Yun did not participate in the Battle of Hanzhong at all. He and Zhuge Liang guarded Chengdu with both civil and military forces.
Reason: When he was called King of Hanzhong, basically everyone who participated in the Battle of Hanzhong had their official positions promoted, except for Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun whose official positions remained unchanged.
The second guess: According to Pei's notes, Zhao Yun participated in the Battle of Hanzhong, but was not rewarded.
I personally think this speculation is unreasonable.
The third guess: There is a lack of historical data on Zhao Yun just mentioned. Chen Shou was not sure and did not record it. As a result, it is not known whether Zhao Yun participated in the Battle of Hanzhong during this period and whether he was promoted to an official.
Feng Xi personally prefers the lack of historical materials on Zhao Yun.
By the way, there is a very distinctive feature of official positions in the Shu Han Dynasty, that is, a high official does not necessarily have real power, and a small official does not mean that he has no real power.
For example, Guan Yu was the miscellaneous general and the commander-in-chief of Jingzhou's military affairs.
General Zhang Fei was stationed in Brazil County.
Zhuge Liang was a general with the miscellaneous title, and was in charge of General Zuo's affairs. He had great power.
Ma Chao is General Pingxi among the heavy-name generals. As a result, he is a mascot and has no real power.
About Zhao Yun's life, I probably just mentioned it here.
In fact, saying so much is enough for me to update a chapter.
But Feng Xi feels that since I have written it all here, I also want to talk to you so that everyone can identify the difference between Zhao Yun in official history and romance, and also let everyone have a general understanding of Zhao Yun's positioning. It is not that he is not reused, and he is not simply
Bodyguards are not mediocre or incompetent.
Moreover, many people now like thick and black learning, like to sensationalize, and speculate that Liu Bei is a hypocrite, because his original intention has changed after entering Yizhou.
Feng Xi should also mention it here. Most of this book refers to the romance story line. Unless the romance is too outrageous or the magical plot will be eliminated, then the official history will be referred to.
Thank you everyone for seeing this, Fengxi also hopes you can continue to support!
