Chapter 362: Battle of Jaquessa (I)

On July 22, 1788, the fourth day of July 19, the 53rd year of Qianlong, three regiments of the Northern Navy, which had been resting in Heilongjiang City for nearly two weeks, arrived in two groups at the mouth of Humaer River, 320 miles away.

When he saw the small island by the river that was once captured by Tsarist Russia and now has become a ruin, he learned from his guide Zamusu that the resistance of the leader named Tubert, the Northern Navy was filled with indignation. As for the bodies of the Ewenki leader Tubert and other Qing and border residents who died in battle, Zhao Xin also sent people to find it on the island, reconciled it with thick pine boards, and buried it at the foot of Xiaoheizi Mountain.

The move of the Northern Navy surprised the Daurs, Oroqen and Sorens who followed the north to help. In their opinion, these rebels under the banner of the Han people did not reject the border people at all, and all the Manchu and Han ethnic groups were treated equally; and the Northern Navy had occupied Heilongjiang City for a month and never paid the captive tax, which made the border people a little uncomfortable.

In the past, the Qing Dynasty controlled the people of various border tribes through the cap tax, and then used a large amount of materials to calm the hearts of the people so that the divisions could contribute their efforts to serve the Qing court and guard the border.

The problem is that the military and political system of Beihai Town is different from all feudal regimes in this time and space. Zhao Xinshou holds several large gold and silver companion mines, and there is no place to spend the money; the various factories in Beihai Town are now producing mountains of materials, and the purchases of those border tribes in the lower reaches of Heilongjiang cannot consume much.

I don’t want your head tax and tribute. I don’t have any problem with living supplies. I just go to the trading house to exchange for fur, prey and handicrafts. It’s fine and cheap, and it’s OK to buy it.

Are you shooting archery and riding a horse like walking on the flat ground? You want to join the army? Applause and welcome. But you go to the recruit camp in Heilongjiang City for three months to train, and you also have to learn Chinese and Chinese characters. The two lines on the latter side alone made many illiterate people stumped. These people were playing with bows and reins, but as soon as they picked up books and pencils and entered the classroom, they were all desolate after class.

In order to delay the operations of the Northern Navy in the direction of Yaxa City, the Russian army in the direction of Yaxa City continued to put down wooden rafts into the river from the front line of Guigudal City. Many wooden rafts were tied together and threw them into the river. They began to fall apart after drifting far away, resulting in thick logs everywhere on the river, which was extremely harmful to the Northern Navy's fleet. In the end, the fleet had to turn to the Huma River to stay and hide.

In addition, the two battalions of hunters left by Suvorov's previous order were divided into small groups of dozens of people and teamed up to cooperate with each other to harass and block the reconnaissance team sent by the North Navy.

The hunters sent by the Russian army were all hunters and were very familiar with the battle of the mountains and forests. More than a dozen of them slapped their guns every now and then turned around and disappeared into the dense forest. This made the reconnaissance team chase, and it was not impossible to chase.

The worst thing is that drones are completely useless in dense primeval forests, and it is almost difficult to find those small Russian troops.

Although the reconnaissance team is equipped with automatic weapons and homemade grenades, the amount of ammunition it carries is limited after all, and the weapon killing efficiency of the dense forest terrain has also decreased significantly. Even if this battle wiped out the Russian squad, there would be another one ahead, endless.

Faced with this situation, Zhao Xin and Liu Sheng discussed, and then changed their tactics and adopted the tactics of relaying layers and transporting ammunition and drugs along the river.

Liu Sheng and Fan Tong led a regiment, and with the cooperation of several flat-bottomed wooden ships filled with ammunition and medicine, advancing along the river bank, the troops were allowed to rotate in platoons and reconnaissance teams. As long as they were discovered, the hunting team of the Tsarist Russians would be suppressed directly. The dense rain of bullets as dense as a waterfall first hit the opponent and could not raise their heads, and then encircled them from both sides and annihilated them in one fell swoop.

The Northern Navy's tactic was extremely effective, and it caused heavy losses to the Russian hunting troops. If Suvorov had not ordered them to retreat and the violators were hanged, the hunting soldiers would have run away with their heads in their arms.

When Liu Sheng and his team arrived at the former site of Duojin City, 30 kilometers away from Yaquesa City, the amount of wood the Russian army dropped into the Heilongjiang River finally decreased to negligence, and the fleet staying in the Huma River could move.

During the days when Huma River was stranded, Zhao Xin felt that it was raining to beat the child - it was idle too. So after a while, he immediately ordered thousands of people from the Northern Navy to work together. First, a military station was built on the former castle site built by the Tsarist Russian invaders that year, and then more than 30 woodcuts were built at the foot of the mountain, digging water wells, and setting fires on the river bank.

On the west side of the military station, the side of the Huma River is cliffs and the terrain is dangerous. Moreover, the well dug by the Tsarist Russians back then is still there, and it only needs to be cleaned up to be used. Unlike the Cossacks who worked hard to dig trenches and burn bricks and fill soil, the Northern Navy built explosion-proof walls and reinforced concrete, and two barbed wire mesh. With this military station and the village at the foot of the mountain, hundreds of people will come to cultivate land on both sides of the river bank, and the Huma River estuary will be as safe as Mount Tai.

In fact, even if Zhao Xin did not move the Han population, with the protection of the North Sea Army Station, the nearby Daur people would gather in the villages at the foot of the mountain to settle down. Several Daur people who accompanied the north took a fancy to this place, and it would be a fool to not live in a house for free!

Unlike Oroqen, Hezhe or other nomadic peoples, the Daur people in the northeast had formed a village-like lifestyle since the Ming Dynasty. The agriculture and animal husbandry were relatively developed and deeply influenced by the farming culture of the Central Plains.

After staying at the mouth of Huma River for more than 20 days, Zhao Xin finally received a message from the front troops, and the Northern Navy's fleet set out again. Due to the unfamiliar hydrological conditions and the fact that he also brought more than 20 wooden boats full of soldiers, he walked more than 450 kilometers of waterways for five or six days before he arrived.

No one knows which dynasty or dynasty of the former site of Duojin City was built. Only some earthen moats were left on the abolished site, and no tiles were left. Zhao Xin speculated that this place was either a Liao Dynasty or a relic of the Jin Dynasty.

Zhao Xin learned from several Russian prisoners captured by the reconnaissance team that there were two castles built by the Russian army in Yaksa, one large and one small. In addition to building a large four-sided star fort with a side length of one kilometer on the north bank of Heilongjiang and several semicircular trench positions outside the bastion, they also built a small castle on the ancient city island separated by a river to the south, thus forming a defensive pattern of supporting the north and the south.

The former castle site on the ancient city island was built when the Qing army attacked Yaksa. Due to the fierce artillery fire of the Russian army defending the city, in order to prevent the war from delaying until winter, the Qing army built a fortress guarded by the ancient city island separated by water, forming a condescending momentum for the city of Yaksa occupied by the Russian army and mobilized cannons to bombard it. Although the Qing army failed to siege the city later, the artillery strikes on the ancient city island killed a lot of Russian troops in Yaksa. Even the Russian leader Tolbuzin himself was shot dead by one shell, which left a deep impression on Suvorov when he read the notes of his predecessors.

Unlike the failure a hundred years ago, Suvorov realized the seriousness of the situation two months ago. As the commander-in-chief appointed by Catherine II, he ordered the recruitment of troops in the entire Siberian region, recruiting a large team of nearly 5,000 people in the battle lineup and a hunting battalion.

The newly recruited soldiers were slackened. Although Major General Alexei, who was in charge of leading the team, still moved slowly and did not arrive in the Twin Cities of Jaques until early August.

So far, the Tsarist Russian Army deployed 18,000 troops on the front line of Yaxa City, including four battle infantry regiments (7,200), a hunting army (3,828), a newly recruited independent hunting battalion (957), two cavalry regiments (1,000), and a logistics force composed of five thousand civilians.

"Oh! There are so many people, when we finish this battle, how many prisoners will be captured."

At a dining table in the North Naval Camp in Duojincheng, when he heard Fan Tong suddenly say something like this next to him, Zhao Xin, Liu Sheng and Wu Siyu were all laughing.

Zhao Xin muttered while snatching the food: "Yes, there are people working and building roads now. Actually, what I care most about is whether Suvorov is there or not. The tongue we grabbed before was too low."

Liu Shengdao: "Then let the reconnaissance team catch a captain-level officer?"

Wu Siyu said: "I agree, know yourself and your enemy."

Several people were talking while eating, talking very enthusiastically, but Li Yansheng, who was bowing his head and eating on the long table behind him, couldn't help but stop, with a look of shock. He thought to himself that more than 8,000 people attacked the barriers of the city that 20,000 people were entrenched, and he didn't think about whether he could win, but he was worried that there were too many prisoners? Although the Northern Navy had encircled and annihilated thousands of Russian troops under Aihui City before, it was a sneak attack, which caught Rakshasa off guard.

What good things are you thinking about!

The reason why this person was able to follow him was that he wanted to surrender, but the condition was that he would follow him to see how the Northern Navy fought Rakshasa. Secondly, Zhao Xin wanted to use him as an example to show people from all ethnic groups in the Northeast. The meaning was that I held high the banner of "Ming" and called myself Your Highness. I could even accept the Han army flag and the little oolong of the Solon tribe. Whether it is Solon or something, I would all surrender!

So Zhao Xin asked Li Yansheng to follow Yin Bingwei and fight with the guard company every day. In turn, he also asked Yin Bingwei to monitor him. It is impossible to get out of the army now.

Hearing Zhao Xin and the others say they want to continue to scratch their tongues, Li Yansheng looked up at Yin Bingwei opposite him and said, "Brother Yin, can I follow him to scratch my tongue?"

Yin Bingwei looked up and said, "This is all the reconnaissance team's business, it's not the turn of the guard company."

Li Yansheng asked, "I always heard from you that the reconnaissance team is, who are they?"

Yin Bingwei said: "Only if the reconnaissance team does a good job, they can be selected to be a guard for adults."

"Oh? Brother Yin used to be a powerful general in the reconnaissance team?"

Can Yin Bingwei tell the truth? He can only answer with silence.

He was chosen as a guard by Zhao Xin because he went to attack the Satsuma clan, and there was no one around who knew the way of island warriors attacking. When Zhao Xin didn't want to talk to the island people, the other party suddenly had a "jue-killing", which allowed Yin Bingwei, who was a disciple of "Ono's sword", to follow him.

Li Yansheng thought the other party looked down on him, and thought to himself that you, the barbarians from Japan, were so great that they were so great that they were carrying a broken knife all day long, and one day they would let you see the horse-killing sword method passed down by my family.

That night, the Northern Navy reconnaissance team, who received the mission, set off under the leadership of Serdan. This time their mission was to catch an officer who was at least lieutenant or above. The group of thirty people did not take a boat, but rode horses straight to the northwest along the dense forest on the south bank of the Heilongjiang River, with the target of Karen, the former Qing army at the mouth of the Emu River. It was opposite the river from the city of Yaksa and the Russian fortress in the ancient city island city. It is speculated that Tsarist Russia would definitely station troops on the hills there.

This day was August 18th. In the early morning, the reconnaissance team arrived twenty miles away from Emulkaren. Serdan's plan was to go to bed in the afternoon and wait for action. Unexpectedly, after two hours of sleep, the soldier in charge of keeping the watch woke him up.

"Discover a team of Rakshasa soldiers!"

Seldan opened his sleepy eyes and asked, "How many people?"

The sentry said: "Fifty riders, one hundred and fifty walking, and the one leading the team seemed to be a lieutenant."

The reconnaissance team has been fighting with the Russian army these days, not to mention the prisoners in the old city of Aihui. Now they are very familiar with the signs on the enemy's military uniforms.

The Russian officers had a ribbon on their shoulders from right to left, a triangular hat on their heads, and a saber on their waists. The Russian infantry all wore black lamb-wool helmets, yellow hard-eaves helmets with red lapels on their necks and chests, linen uniforms with red cuffs on their sleeves, and bloomers of the same color underneath. The belt was white, and the backpack belts that crossed the left and right on their chests were also white; as for the cavalry, they looked different, and their uniforms were covered with dense buttons.

"Captain, do you want to beat this group of people?"

Seldan thought to himself that he had met a team of 200 people from Rakshasa after he was twenty miles away. If he avoided this group of people and moved forward, he might encounter a big fish. Thinking of this, he asked his subordinates to keep alert and prepare for battle, and not alarm the enemy for the time being.

He didn't want to fight here, but who knew that the Russian team was getting closer and closer to the reconnaissance team, and there was a Daur man who surrendered to the patrol. With his instinct to hunt in the jungle for many years, this guy keenly felt that someone had a horse in front of him, so he immediately reported to the lieutenant who led the team.

The Russian lieutenant immediately ordered his hunters to scatter and the cavalry detoured to the flanks. Seeing that the enemy had already set up an attack formation and rushed forward step by step, Seldan had to order to open fire.

"Bang!"

With a gunshot, the sergeant holding a blue flag walking in the Russian army was knocked over to the ground with one shot. Gunshots suddenly erupted on the reconnaissance team's position, and several Russian hunters walking in the front were shot and killed.

During these days of fighting with the Northern Navy, the Russian army also noticed the extremely long shooting distance of the Northern Navy's weapons, so they would rather fight in the dense forest than face the Northern Navy in the wilderness.

As soon as he heard the gunshots, the Russian Tsarist hunters quickly lay on the ground, hiding behind thick trees or rocks. Under the orders of the lieutenant, some hunters either lit cast iron bombs with bare hands or threw bombs with mortars to disrupt the shooting vision of the Northern Navy, while others attacked from the side to buy time for the cavalry.

The early handheld mortar was called "Hand Mortar". This thing changed the front part of an ordinary smoothbore rifle into a large bullet chamber made of steel. The gun body was very short, like a large cup, and the caliber was mostly between 50 and 60mm.

Didn’t it be said before that the Russian army now learns everything from the Prussian army, so this kind of early grenade launcher was also introduced into the hunting army.

In fact, this thing is extremely dangerous. The shooter needs to load the gun and add gunpowder to fire. Before firing, he must first ignite the grenade fuse, then put the grenade into the muzzle of the mortar, and then fire at the enemy. Therefore, once the fire is delayed, the consequences can be imagined.

Moreover, due to poor cast iron technology and poor black gunpowder, the early grenades often only divided into a few relatively large pieces of broken iron when they exploded. Unless this thing hits the crowd, the lethality is really touching.

After fighting for a while, the brave and careful Russian lieutenant found that the other party was only shooting soldiers and did not shoot at him much. He immediately understood that he wanted to capture himself alive.
