Early in the morning the next day, the old boatman took the villagers to the bank of Bailong River. They had already prepared baskets of steamed buns and baskets of stones and lime. They all hated the vicious Bailong and hoped that the little boy would be safe.

There was not a single cloud in the blue sky, the sun was walking slowly, and the people on the shore were waiting anxiously. Finally at noon, I saw a stream of black water coming from north to south, and another stream of white water.
