Chapter 451 Gunshot(1/2)

The RV drove into Red Rock Canyon.

The scenery in the canyon is spectacular, with an average width of thirteen miles. The south bank of the canyon is relatively dry and warm, with few plants.

The terrain in the north is higher and the air is humid, so the vegetation is more abundant and lush.

Luke and Walker discussed it and decided not to go directly to the bottom of the canyon, but to drive along the south bank of the canyon. This direction has less vegetation and flat terrain, making it easier to drive, and standing high, you can observe the terrain in the canyon.

The car didn't drive very fast, and the two of them got out of the car from time to time to check. They used binoculars to observe the surrounding terrain and found the terrain that matched the map.

The scenery along the way is beautiful, and occasionally you can see animals in the canyon, such as salamanders, prairie dogs, rattlesnakes, wild goats, etc., and there are bald eagles flying in the sky.

With so many animals accompanying them, Luke and Luke didn't feel bored, and it really felt like traveling.

Luke glanced at his cell phone and saw that the signal was very poor, otherwise he would have really wanted to make a video call with his family and let them see this canyon full of wildness and roughness.

In the evening, the wind picked up a bit, and there was a "wuwu..." sound in the valley.

Seeing that the sky was getting dark and the terrain in the distance was unrealistic, the two found a place leeward as a campsite.

Luke got out of the car. The surrounding scenery was beautiful, and the view of the canyon in the distance was spectacular.

Walker looked at the sky and said, "We should make dinner. That damn chicken burger at lunch made my dentures hurt. Can you understand that feeling?"

"No, I don't need to understand." Luke showed his big white teeth.

"I'm very hungry now. I believe this feels the same." Walker took a swig of beer.

"You're right, what should we eat for dinner?" Luke was indeed hungry, and he wasn't even hungry at all with what he had for lunch.

"Barbecuing! Is there anything more appropriate than barbeque at this moment?"

"I agree, but can you eat barbecue with your dentures?"

"To be honest, the beef tastes a bit difficult, but I bought some lamb chops, which are more tender. I just took them out and defrosted them."

Luke raised the beer bottle and touched it with him, "I'm going to make some charcoal."

Walker nodded, "I'm in charge of the barbecue."

Luke took the folding oven out of the RV, put in charcoal, an alcohol lamp, and lit it with a cassette stove. "I like this feeling. We are not only here to hunt for treasures, but also to travel."

Walker agreed, "You are right, in my opinion treasure hunting is an adventure trip, and the process is more important than the result.

Regardless of whether we can find the treasure, at least we enjoyed the process."

The charcoal was ready, Walker started grilling the meat, and Luke sat on the deck chair drinking beer and watching the scenery.

Soon, the lamb was roasted, and Walker put two portions of instant pasta on the oven.

The two of them ate grilled lamb chops, drank wine, and discussed their plan to find the treasure.

After eating, the sky became darker, the wind became colder, and it felt a bit chillier to be in the empty canyon.

"Aww..." A wolf howled in the distance.

"I think it's time to go home." Walker got up and returned to the RV, which was his temporary home and warm haven.

Luke looked at the dark canyon, which was indeed a bit scary. Fortunately, he was more courageous. If he was a timid person, he might not dare to spend the night here.

Luke extinguished the stove and returned to the RV. It was like a bright castle, isolated from the darkness of the canyon.

Walker took out the treasure map, laid it out on the table and started studying it. Luke poured two glasses of whiskey and handed him one.

Walker took a sip of whiskey and turned on his tablet. The photos of the canyon terrain taken today were all stored on the tablet. Walker looked through the photos and compared them with the treasure map.

The same place, if viewed from different positions and angles, the terrain is also different.

Walker was very patient and adjusted the angle of each picture to compare with the treasure map.

"Luke, look at this photo." Walker pointed at the computer screen, "Is this photo somewhat similar to the terrain on the treasure map?"

Luke looked at the photo and then the treasure map. They did look similar, but upon closer inspection they were different.

Walker said, "This topographic map was drawn by hand. Depending on the angle of the painter, the drawn terrain will be different. It is normal for the terrain to be different from the actual terrain."

After listening to Walker's words, Luke took a closer look and felt that they were somewhat similar. However, the canyon had nine twists and turns, and many of the terrains looked somewhat similar. He really couldn't be sure. "Tomorrow we will go to the canyon to check it out."

Well, maybe we will find something."

Walker was a little worried, "Can our RV go down?"

This is indeed a problem. The RV is comfortable to live in, but the traffic capacity is not strong. “I remember that in the afternoon we passed a flat downhill road, which was not too far from here.

We can go back and go downhill from that road, and if it’s really impassable, we can walk into the canyon.”

Walker nodded, "That's all we can do. We are still not fully prepared. We should buy a smaller motorcycle and hang it on the back of the RV. It will be more convenient for exploring the road or traveling."

"It's a good idea. I'll have experience next time." Luke's Harley was obviously not good enough because it was too big.

The two finalized their plans for tomorrow, chatted for a while, and got ready to go to bed.

"Aww..." Suddenly, another wolf howl sounded.

This time the sound was obviously much closer, and there should be more than one, more like a pack of wolves.

Luke checked the doors and windows to make sure they were locked to prevent animals from getting in at night.

"Ouch..." There was another wolf howl, this time the distance was much closer, and Luke had a vague feeling of bad premonition.

Soon, his premonition came true.

The howls of the wolves came from far away, and Luke could already see the shadows of the wolves through the RV glass.

The size of the wolf pack is small, only about seven or eight. They have gray fur and are small in size. They are only 40 to 50 centimeters tall and should be less than one meter in length.

At this time, the wolves ran near the RV.

Luke could clearly see their appearance. Their mouths were somewhat narrow, showing sharp teeth, their long ears stood up, and their tails drooped naturally. They were probably coyotes.

Walker also started to check the RV surveillance, "Why are these ugly little guys surrounding my RV? Is there something attracting them?"

"Bang..." a sound.

A wolf knocked over the barbecue stove.

The other wolf tore open the garbage bag and licked the garbage in the bag.

Luke guessed, "They were probably attracted by the smell of grilled lamb chops. These guys' noses are simply better than dogs."

"I don't want them hanging around my door, so I have to find a way to get rid of them," Walker said.

Walker opened the drawer and took out his revolver.

Luke asked, "What are you going to do?"

"Open the window, give them some color, and let you see my shooting skills.

My revolver is definitely better than your Glock." Walker loaded a larger caliber bullet into the revolver.

"Are you sure you want to open the window? If they get caught, they might jump up and bite your hand off." Luke looked out the dark window. There might be more coyotes hiding in the dark.

"Then what do you think we should do? Just watch these guys running wild outside.

God, what did I see! That beast was peeing on my RV." Walker became more and more angry.

The conversation between the two men in the RV may have attracted the coyote's attention.

A coyote began to claw at the car door, making a "stinging, stinging, stinging" sound.

"Fuck!, this is my new RV." Walker was furious, "Luke, we must do something to drive these beasts away immediately."

Luke said, "Unload the bullets and empty the gun to see if that scares them away."

"Will it work?"

"You have to try it before you know it. It's better than sitting around stupidly." Luke suggested a safer way.

If the coyote is far away, you can open the window and shoot, but the coyote is around the RV, you can shoot them with a gun, and they will attack you through the window.

Coyotes can see better in the dark and are more proactive.

"Bang!" a gunshot sounded.

Luke and Walker were both stunned.

Walker had just opened the revolver and had not unloaded the bullets. This shot was not fired by him.

Walker quickly reloaded the unloaded bullets.

Luke also stood up and held his right hand on the handle of the gun.

Walker checked the RV surveillance and looked out through the window, "I didn't see anyone, but it sounded like a shotgun, it should not be far from here.

The good news is, the coyotes are gone."

The sound of gunfire echoed in the canyon.

For coyotes, shotguns are more intimidating, and this threat comes from their deepest fears.

This isn't good news for Walker and Luke either.

Coyotes are a threat, but not a big one. They can at most capture an RV and cannot threaten the safety of the two of them. They are just a minor nuisance.

But the man with the shotgun was different. He was probably nearby. Neither Luke noticed his presence. It was unclear whether he was a friend or an enemy.
