Chapter 547 Martin(1/2)

 Speck Street.

The street is located in the south of the city. It has been in disrepair and looks a bit dilapidated. There are many tents where homeless people live and colorful graffiti on both sides of the street.

Two black cars drove into the street and parked on the side of the road near the Tacoma convenience store.

The door of the passenger compartment of the car opened. Luke walked out of the passenger compartment, glanced at the sign of the convenience store, and then looked around. He took Xiao Hei into the convenience store, while the others stayed outside the convenience store.

Sitting at the counter was a Mexican woman in her twenties with a plump figure. She glanced at Luke and then lowered her head to apply nail polish.

Xiao Hei leaned against the counter like a weakling, "Hey, beauty, I want to ask you something."

The female clerk glanced at Xiao Hei and said, "I am married, my eldest son is five years old, and my youngest daughter is three years old.

My husband is still alive, you have no chance."

"Haha..." Xiao Hei smiled, "You are very interesting, I like it."

"It's useless if you like it. I don't want to be shot to death by my husband for cheating on me. Believe me, he can definitely do it."

"Your husband is not the only one with a gun." Xiao Hei showed his police badge, "Ma'am, I am Detective Marcus of the Robbery and Murder Division. We are investigating a serious criminal case and would like to ask for your assistance.

I believe your husband won’t shoot you because of this.”

"Sorry, I misunderstood, but you really look like..." The female clerk shrugged, did not continue, and asked, "What do you want to ask?"

Xiao Hei said, "Did someone use a Wells Fargo credit card here forty minutes ago?"

"Yes."

"We need to find that person."

"Can I refuse? After all, I have no reason to reveal the customer's whereabouts."

"Of course you can.

Next time we will apply for a search warrant and conduct a comprehensive inspection of your convenience store..." Xiao Hei raised his eyebrows, showing a look that you know.

The female clerk snorted lightly, with some reluctance on her face. After hesitating for a while, she walked out of the counter, looked towards the door of the store, and said, "The person you are looking for bought a bottle of brandy and a bag of cornflakes."

The little gangster said, "I'm asking about his whereabouts."

The female clerk stared at Xiao Hei without saying a word.

Luke walked to the door of the store and looked outside. His eyes fell on a suspected homeless man across the street. Next to the homeless man was a bottle of brandy and a bag of cornflakes. "Is it him?"

The female clerk nodded and returned to the counter.

"Thanks."

Luke winked at Xiao Hei, and the two of them left the convenience store.

Luke walked to the other side of the street and looked at the homeless man, who had short hair, a gray beard, jeans, and a floral shirt. He looked to be in his fifties or sixties, sitting casually on the steps of the street.

Luke walked to the side, looked at the homeless man, and took the initiative to start the conversation, "The weather is nice today."

The homeless man wiped the cornflake residue from his beard, "Yeah, I love every day in Los Angeles. What's the matter, man?"

"Luke."

"Martin."

"Hey, Martin, I want to ask you about someone."

"OK, if I knew him, I would tell you." The tramp took a sip of brandy.

"Do you know Rohel Horn?"

Tramp Martin glanced at Luke, "Who are you?"

Luke flashed his police badge.

"Yes, I know Rohel Horn.

What happened to him?"

"he died."

Martin sighed and took another sip of brandy, "He's a nice guy..."

Luke saw that there was no surprised expression on his face, "Did you know he was dead?"

"I have no idea……

But his recent state has not been very good and he has been very negative. To be honest, I am indeed a little worried about him."

"Have you known each other for a long time?"

"Probably a few months, I can't remember exactly."

"When was the last time you saw him?"

"It must have been the day before yesterday. He looked very worried. He drank a bottle of beer with me, didn't say a few words, left a credit card and left."

"Wells Fargo credit card?"

"Yes, I just went to the convenience store to buy a bottle of wine and snacks."

"Why did he leave his credit card to you?"

"You should ask him."

"I can only ask you now."

"It's not as complicated as you think, he probably just wanted to buy me a drink.

I wanted to return the credit card to him the next time I meet him." Martin sighed and took out a Wells Fargo credit card from his pocket, "Can you hand it over to his wife for me?"

Luke took the credit card, "Do you know his situation well?"

"Although we haven't known each other for a long time, we do get along quite well."

"Can you tell me about him?"

"Do you have a cigarette?"

Luke took out two cigarettes, handed him one, and smoked one himself.

Martin lit up the cigarette, took a puff, and said with a look of enjoyment, "You know what? He envies me very much."

Luke was a little surprised, "What?"

"You heard it right, that guy is envious of me." Martin smiled, pointing to the wine bottle and corn flakes on the ground, "A $3.50 bottle of brandy and a bag of corn flakes will make me happy all day long.

Happiness is actually very simple. Don't regret the past, don't worry about the future, and live well in the present.

I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but there’s not much that can really be done.”

Martin pointed at himself and said with pride, "I did it.

I live every day as if it is the last day of my life.

Being able to see the sun the next day is equivalent to making money.

Then it’s another happy day.”

Martin turned to look at Luke, "Are you happy?"

Luke was stunned for a moment and nodded, "Yes, I am very happy."

"It seems that you are a lucky guy like me.

We should celebrate." Martin handed the bottle to Luke, "Would you like a sip?"

"No, I don't drink while working." Luke declined. He didn't like sharing a bottle with men.

Luke asked, "Did you know that Rohel Horn lost his job six months ago?"

"Of course, if he had not lost his job and was still working conscientiously, maybe the two of us would never have met or become friends." Martin's eyes were a little red, "I still miss him quite a bit.

But it doesn’t matter, maybe we will meet tomorrow, who knows?”

"Do you know what he did for a living after he lost his job?"

"Yes, this guy has racked his brains to support his family, and I have also given him advice.

At first, he hoped to work in other travel agencies, but he interviewed more than a dozen companies and failed.

He also tried other jobs, but either the work was not up to standard or the salary was too low to support his family, so he gave up.

This guy was lucky and could win some money at the casino to support his family at first, but luck cannot always be there.

As far as I know, he later lost a lot of money and borrowed a lot of loan sharks..." Martin sighed softly and took a puff of his cigarette, "Poor guy.

In order to get money, he finally chose to work as a drug tester in a pharmaceutical factory.

I advised him that this is not a good job.

But he went anyway.

In his words, he is not alone. He has a wife and children behind him, all waiting for him to make money and go home.

At that time, I had a bad feeling that he was not capable of taking on this responsibility now, but he refused to let go, and if he persisted, it would probably kill him."

Luke asked, "He's been working as a drug tester lately?"
