Chapter 139 Eavesdropping

"Professor Slughorn, very welcome!"

Mr. Rosmerta, the owner of the two broom bar, quickly greeted him enthusiastically and shouted in an exaggerated manner.

"Oldly, two glasses of honey!" Horace Slughorn stood up with a big belly, like a chubby walrus.

Obviously, he has a very familiar relationship with the boss of the two brooms.

He quickly sat down with Miss Elaine Shafik and then had a friendly conversation over there.

...

Miss Hermione Granger stared at her two companions fiercely like a lioness.

Neville quickly lowered his head and said nothing...

As for Matthew, he did not rush over and greet Professor Slughorn and Miss Shafik as Hermione imagined...

He squinted his eyes, glanced at the old and young people over there, then lowered his head, as if thinking about something...

All three of them are members of the Slug Club, and they are theoretically considered to be Horas Slughorn's favorite disciples.

But at this time, they "have their own ulterior motives" and no one walked over to say hello to the Potion Class teacher.

Then, Matthew gently raised his index finger to his lips, signaling his two friends not to speak—

Then he quietly took out his wand and chanted softly:

"Mobiliarbus"!"

A potted plant next to the small table rose a few inches from the ground, drifted a foot to the side, and gently landed in front of their table.

To be precise, it is separated between Slughorn and them; avoid Slughorn from discovering them.

...

Matthew wanted to know what Slughorn and Elaine Shafik were talking about.

But the voice of their conversation was too small, and there was a certain distance between the two tables... so much so that even if he pricked up his ears, he could not hear anything.

Neville and Hermione both looked at Matthew's actions in surprise, but they didn't say anything.

"Do you want to eavesdrop, Matthew?" Hermione said in a very low voice.

Matthew nodded first, then shook his head regretfully.

After all, I still have too poor magical level and I don’t have any powerful magic props like “Invisibility Clothes” around me. It’s too difficult to eavesdrop on the words of a wizard of Slughorn and not be discovered by myself…

"I have a way!" Hermione's eyes lit up suddenly.

Then, she took out her pocket and finally took out a soft, fleshy little ear and a tattered little button.

"This pair of gadgets was bought from a vendor when I was in India... As long as I put this small button secretly on them, I could hear clearly from another little ear!" Hermione said in a low voice.

Matthew couldn't help but look shocked.

The principles of magic are generally different between civilizations... Even if Slughorn is knowledgeable and experienced, he may not be able to recognize this kind of magic prop from abroad at the first time!

Hermione had handed over the pair of gadgets.

Matthew quickly picked up the small button and glanced at the potted plant. He was thinking: What method should be used to put it next to Slughorn, it would be more appropriate...

"Leave it to me!" Neville volunteered.

"Nevil?" Matthew looked at him in surprise.

"Believe me!" Neville said with a firm look on his face.

"Yeah!" Matthew nodded, and handed him the ragged little button.

...

Neville Longbottom, holding the button, left Matthew and Hermione.

He walked around the two broom bars as if nothing had happened, and then walked down Slughorn and Miss Shafik.

Through the branches and leaves of the bonsai, Matthew could notice that Horas Slughorn and Elaine Shafik were concentrating on the conversation, not noticing him.

Suddenly, Neville slipped under his feet and then he fell to the ground.

"Oh!" he screamed.

Slughorn seemed to be startled, but soon he found that Neville Longbottom fell in front of him.

He quickly got up and helped Neville up: "Neville, Oh, my child, are you okay?"

"Sorry, Professor." Neville held Professor Slughorn's bench and stood up with his help.

He looked like he had a bruised nose and a swollen face.

"I was looking for someone just now, and I didn't look at the road..." Neville said, "Did you see Dean Thomas and Seamo Fenigan... I came with them Hogsmeade, but we got lost..."

"No, I think they shouldn't be here," Slughorn shook his head, "Want to sit down and have a drink together?"

"No, I'd better go to the Honey Duke to find them!" Navi refused Slughorn's invitation.

After waved with Slughorn, he walked out two brooms without looking back.

Slughorn didn't seem to have any doubts. After Neville left, he sat down and lowered his head and began to talk to Elaine Shafik.

Behind the potted plant, Matthew and Hermione looked at each other.

Both of them nodded in agreement.

Then, one after another, quietly walked out of the bar.

...

Neville was waiting for them at the door.

He did fall hard just now, his forehead was a little swollen, and now he looks very embarrassed.

Seeing Matthew and Hermione come out, he hurriedly greeted him.

"I'm not discovered, aren't I?" Neville asked in a low voice. "That button, I just quietly stuck to the back of the bench in Slughorn."

"It shouldn't be," Hermione shook her head, "Let's go find a quiet place first, come with me, I know there is no one in a place."

The three hurriedly left the two broom bars, followed Hermione, and crossed the endless stream of Hogsmeade Avenue.

"Matthew, why are you eavesdropping on Professor Slughorn?" Hermione asked in a low voice.

Matthew put the little ear close to his ear, and Mr. Rosmerta's voice sounded inside, sounding like he was serving honey wine.

After hesitating for a moment, Matthew briefly retelled the matter of Elaine Shafik... about some of the experiences of her father, Mr. Shafik, who is now in Azkaban... Of course, some details have been slightly deleted.

"Oh my God!" Hermione looked a little surprised. "So, you deliberately approached the girl named Elaine Shafik, because of this reason?"

"That's right!" Matthew nodded without hesitation.

Hermione looked relieved, and even a smile appeared quietly on her face.

"We're almost here." She pointed to a small hill on the south side of Hogsmeade Village. "There are usually no people on that hill."
