Chapter 3 Diagon Alley

The next morning, Matthew woke up very early.

In fact, he almost didn't have much rest the night before.

There are many things in my mind, about magic, about Hogwarts, about the world.

It is obvious that the world I am in is the magical world where Harry Potter is in my memory, but it is different from that world in my memory.

More importantly, according to Penelo Crivat's description, as a Muggle-born wizard, he seems to have been firmly tied to death by the laws of this world and has no way to escape.

In this way, I can only take one step at a time.

While thinking, Matthew climbed up from the bed, and a little breakfast was placed on the old wooden table: cereal, toast and grilled sausage.

After taking a few bites, although it tasted a bit weird, it wasn't impossible to swallow it.

Last night he already knew that the room he was in was in a bar in London... the Rolled Cauldron Bar, Room 13.

A very famous place in the world of wizards.

Perhaps they are Muggles and freshmen who are just starting to enroll in Hogwarts, who are all first-year students, must be arranged here?

"Mr. Wakefield, have you got up?" Just after Matthew finished breakfast, Penelo's voice came from outside the door.

"Of course, I'm finished breakfast." Matthew hurried over and opened the door of the room.

"Then let's go now." The other party smiled and said, "As a freshman in Hogwarts, you still have a lot to buy."

As she said, she stuffed a list of parchment paper into Matthew's hand.

"No problem!" Matthew glanced at the list and stuffed it into his pocket.

Maybe it was because it was very early, there were not many customers in the Broken Cauldron Bar.

Several old ladies were sitting in the corner of the house holding a small glass of sherry, one of whom was smoking a long cigarette pipe; a man in a topper was chatting with a bar owner who had almost stripped naked and looked like a walnut.

"Good morning, Miss Qingshui." The bar owner glanced over and saw Penelo and Matthew walking downstairs, smiled at her, revealing a bit of rotten teeth.

"Good morning, Mr. Abbo." Penelo nodded politely at him: "I'm taking the first-year student to Diagon Alley to buy the essentials for Hogwarts."

"I wish you all the best."

"Thanks."

They walked through the bar counter of the Burnt Cauldron Bar and came to a small patio with walls on all sides. There was nothing but some weeds.

"Remember this brick, Mr. Wakefield." Penelo took out a small wooden stick - her wand from somewhere.

At the same time, she looked at the wall on the other side of the broken pot bar: "From the bottom left, count 16 pieces horizontally, and count 12 pieces upwards... Remember not to count the wrong number, otherwise there will be quite bad consequences."

She tapped the brick three times with her wand.

The brick she knocked on shook and began to move. A small hole appeared in the middle, and the opening became larger and larger. Soon, a wide archway appeared in front of them that was enough for the two of them to pass through, leading to a winding and invisible street.

"This is Diagon Alley, the largest wizard commercial street in the whole of England!"

Matthew followed Penelo and walked along the archway. As they entered, the archway began to narrow and finally became the original solid wall.

...

Maybe because I came very early, Diagon Alley was not as lively as Matthew thought.

There are very few male and female witches on the roadside, and they come and go in a hurry, and most shops have not yet opened.

Seeing Matthew's eyes scanning the surrounding shops, Penelo had a slightly misunderstanding of his thoughts:

"Don't worry about money, Mr. Wickfield, Hogwarts will cover the full cost of every student for seven years in school, especially those from Muggle-born... Let's go to Mr. Ollivander's wand shop first and buy you a wand."

"Okay, follow your arrangements, Miss Crivat." Matthew nodded obediently.

The two continued to walk along the alley, just as they passed a snow-white marble building towering above the surrounding shops.

"This is Gringott, the Wizard Bank," Penelo introduced: "Of course you can't use it before you graduate from Hogwarts."

Matthew just glanced at the gorgeous bank, then his eyes moved to a gloomy fork road next to him.

The fork was pitch black and could not see anything clearly; a crooked brass sign was hung at the fork, and at the same time, it was a big X-shaped character on it.

"This is..." Matthew frowned and walked over with some curiosity.

I saw the name written on the sign clearly: "Summell Alley".

"This road was originally a 'overturned alley'." Penelo walked over and introduced: "Some places of extreme wizards were there. Many years ago, there were many shops selling extreme wizard items... But ten years ago, it was forced to close by the Ministry of Magic, and the owners of those stores were also imprisoned in the wizard prison."

Looking at the daylight and overturning the dark fog in the alley, Matthew couldn't help but take a few steps back.

Is the overturned alley closed?

Matthew thought and turned around, and then he seemed to bump into something...or, a person.

"I'm so sorry!" Matthew turned around and apologized.

At the same time, he also saw the true face of this man - an old man, thin, wearing dirty pajamas, gauze wrapped around his hands, his shoes were too old, and even the mouth of his shoes was cracked. His whole body was torn, which was in a significant contrast with this neat street and the well-dressed men and women.

"Great gentleman, poor old Umbridge, I haven't eaten for a day..." The old man dressed in a beggar trembled and raised a broken bowl with a gap: "One Nath...one Nath is enough."

Matthew was stunned.

A copper plate was thrown into the beggar's bowl, and then Penelo pulled Ramathew's clothes and signaled him to leave quickly.

"Thank you, beautiful lady...thank you, noble gentleman..." I only felt that the beggar bowed behind them.

"He is..." After walking a few steps, Matthew asked incredible ways.

It is hard to imagine that in this world where magic exists, there will be beggars begging for having no money to eat!

"Just a squib," Penelo said calmly: "Just like children in the Muggle world have a very small chance of becoming wizards, children in the Witcher world have a very small chance of becoming muttons, that is, squibs... Don't worry about him, he is not the same as us."

"Why don't you send him to the Muggle world?" Matthew couldn't help asking.

"Because they have learned too much about the secrets about the wizarding world since childhood, it is impossible to let them go." Penelo simply replied: "Okay, we're here."

The shop in front of me is small and broken, and the golden sign on the door is new, with the words:

"Grigovic: Well-made wands have been made since 473 BC."
