Chapter 162: Trembling With Fright
I don’t know when the crying outside disappeared, but instead there was a man talking. He didn’t pay attention to it anymore, and because he was too sleepy, he finally fell asleep.
When he woke up the next morning, he was about to carry the load and go home. As soon as he left the room, he heard people around him talking.
"Hey, I'm dying so miserable, I don't know who did it."
"Don't you know? I heard that people have been killed at night recently, and their stomachs have been cut out and taken out of their internal organs. It's the same as this death. However, the city's guards have not caught the murderer, but I heard that every time a person dies, people hear women crying."
"Ah? Really? Last night I heard the woman crying, but I was so sleepy that I ignored it."
"I didn't hear it. As soon as I lay down, I fell asleep, and someone was knocking on the door. I didn't know. My wife kept scolding me, saying that I was like a dead pig when I fell asleep." Another man scratched his head and said silly.
"The city guards are already investigating, but the man died too frightened. I heard that an old man found a body on the other end of the alley this morning, and he fainted."
Listening to the words around, the middle-aged vendor wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, his heart pounding, and he felt a little scared.
"Hey, gourd seller, what's wrong with you? You feel uncomfortable?" The man next to him saw the middle-aged vendor's face pale and frightened face, patted his shoulder and asked.
"I, I heard the woman crying last night, as if I was crying in front of my room. I almost went to open the door." He said tremblingly.
"Then you are so lucky. Do you know which room did the dead man live in?" the man asked in a low voice.
"Where, which room is from?" the middle-aged vendor asked blankly.
"It's the one next door to you." The man said in a low voice.
The middle-aged vendor heard it and his legs became weak, and he fell to the ground.
"Hey, what are you doing? Get up quickly." When the man saw this, he hurriedly pulled him up and helped him sit aside.
"I'm scared? You're so lucky that you haven't encountered that. Don't worry! It's okay." The man patted his shoulder and comforted him.
At this moment, an old man brought a few city guards in, came to the middle-aged vendor, and said, "You guys, it's him. He lives next to the deceased. Their rooms are the most reliable, maybe he will know something."
Several city guards stepped forward, looked at the middle-aged vendor, and asked, "Did you hear anything last night?"
"I, I heard the cry of a woman last night, and then, there was a man's voice, and then, I didn't know." He said in a trembling voice, but he still couldn't recover from his fears.
"You didn't want to go and see when you heard the woman crying in the middle of the night? Later, when you heard the man's voice, did you hear what they said clearly?" a city guard asked.
"I didn't hear it clearly, I only knew that the crying sound disappeared later and I fell asleep." He shook his head, his face pale.
"The woman's crying was just outside your door. Why didn't you want to go and see it? Or are you in the same group with that woman?" said a city guard, staring at him and shouting loudly.
