Chapter Ten, The Restoration of Bourbon

The Spanish government has not made a decision yet, but the French civil war has come to an end. No matter how hard the new Paris government works, it cannot produce food.

The world is big, and filling your stomach is the biggest. No matter what the overall situation of the revolutionary government, the ordinary people can’t fill their stomachs today. Who can care about tomorrow?

There are only three ways in front of everyone: first, honestly accept the rule of the new government and then starve to death; second, rush out to survive, if you are lucky, you may be able to perfectly avoid the mine formation; third, rebel and regain food from the revolutionary government.

Those who chose the first path were almost starved to death. Even if they had not been starved to death, only half of their lives remained; those who chose the second path were either bombed or retreated, and there were no more people who escaped than those of European bison.

(Note: The European Bison became extinct in 1627.)

In order to survive, more and more Parisian people joined the uprising ranks. The new Paris government is already running hard, and more and more urban areas are occupied by the rebels, and the situation has reached its most critical moment.

Daniel no longer had the energy he had in the past. This round of social beatings came too cruelly, extinguishing all his fantasies.

The intellectuals, students, and verbal parties who originally supported the new government have changed their faces. The more they supported before, the more hostile they are now, as if the situation is out of control is caused by their incompetence.

It seems to make sense to say that. Judging from the results alone, the new government's performance is indeed not very good. But if they say they are incompetent, it would be really wronged.

If the enemy had only the Royalist Party, the new government led by Daniele would have been a big fight, and it is estimated that the whole country would have been pacified now.

Unfortunately, the enemy they faced was the entire European society. The radical revolutionary ideas not only opposed the aristocratic groups, but also the bourgeoisie were also hostile to them.

The ordinary people who were originally their biggest supporters also stood opposite them because of their stomach problems. Looking up, the whole world is their enemies.

...

The roaring guns were getting closer and closer, and Paris was crying every time. As the enemy approached, the captain of the guards reminded him conscientiously: "Mr. Daniel, the First Division is collapsed, the enemy is coming here, you can leave!"

Obviously, this is not the first time he has urged Daniele to run away. However, Daniele has been determined and has been persisting until now.

"Leave, where do you think I can go now?"

"Instead of hiding in a corner and being caught by the enemy in the end, it's better to wait for them here. Even Robert didn't run away. Am I not even as good as a traitor?"

It is not easy to be a politician, and once you get too deeply involved in the show, you can't get out. Now Daniel is a manifestation of being too deeply involved in the show. He firmly believes that the unlucky Robert is a traitor, and he is a great hero who saves the people from the fire and fire.

Or he intentionally numb himself and prevent himself from awakening to escape the cruel reality.

After all, the situation is clear now. No matter who comes to power, he will not let him go as the former leader. Who told him to break the rules of the game first?

Not only did he, the boss, unable to escape, but the younger brother behind him could not escape the liquidation. However, people were lucky. Daniele's unwillingness to run away does not mean that his subordinates would not run away either.

Even if you can't get out of the city, Paris is so big, just find a small corner and just drill it into it. In this era of chaos, it is not easy to find a person.

...

Without sending troops to attack the city, Carlos does not mean that he does not care about the development of the situation in the city. In order to control the intelligence as soon as possible, Carlos has to send airships to investigate every day.

The details are not understood, but Carlos is still clear about the general situation in the city. Once the new revolutionary government is over, he will have to take on the mess in Paris, but if he doesn't want to take on it, he still has to take on it.

If possible, he would rather take over the market later. Even if it would lead to a longer succession, Carlos would do whatever he could.

There is no way. If you take over the market one day earlier, you will have to take on the heavy responsibility of helping the people and restoring the economy one day earlier. It’s not that Carlos likes to evade responsibilities, but the problem is that the mess is too big, and taking it over in one go may crush his shoulders.

If there is not enough food, buy it. Vienna controls grain exports only for the revolutionary government, and the Bourbon dynasty is not within the limits. The only problem is that there is no money in the pocket.

Times are changing, and the cost of restoration is also rising. Even with the support of the aristocratic group, Carlos's pocket has long been empty after forming a restoration army and resettling a large number of refugees.

"Borrowing money" is undoubtedly another headache. France's huge debt has scared away all international banks.

In order to raise funds, Carlos started a crazy big sale mode.

Overseas assets invested by the Bonaparte Dynasty - selling; a series of infrastructure including ports, quays, roads, bridges, and parks - selling; state-owned banks, industrial and mining enterprises - selling; seizure and confiscated chaos - selling...

In short, there is nothing that cannot be sold in any industry that can be cashed out. If someone pays it, Carlos would probably not mind selling even the Palace of Versailles.

The most regrettable thing is that the situation in France is now collapsed, and the originally priceless industries can only sell at one floor price.

The floor price also has to be sold, so who makes them short of money? In short, Carlos has done one thing in recent times: raising money - buying grain.

In the command of the Restoration Alliance, Lieutenant General Felix reminded: "Your Highness, the sound of gunfire in the city has weakened, and it seems that the battle is about to end.

The time to seize Paris is coming soon. Now we need to organize manpower to clear mines and clear out a road for the army to pass.”

When burying mines, the fun is as happy as the mines are, and when burying mines, the hardship is, no one knows that civil strife will break out in Paris. When burying mines, it is as strict as possible to prevent the enemy from rushing out.

There are three layers inside and three layers outside, densely packed with mines. Even the soldiers responsible for burying the mines cannot accurately remember the location they buried.

Facts have proved that the mine siege method is indeed very effective. The defenders in the city have been bombed to cry and cry for their parents after many attacks.

It’s troublesome when clearing mines. This is a high-risk job. If you don’t operate well, you will send yourself to heaven.

"Organize manpower to discover slowly. This kind of thing is impossible. The food in the city should be able to last for some time. We still have time. If necessary, we can organize airships to put food into the city."

All of them were pretty good ideas, but Carlos said it without changing his expression.

Slowly discovering it seems to be responsible for the personal safety of soldiers who clear the mines, but in fact, it is to take over the mess later.

Originally, the food in Paris could have been persisted for a while, but after experiencing this civil war, it was an unknown number to last for a few days.

What's more, people's hearts are complicated. Even if there is food in the city, it cannot be distributed to everyone fairly. The final result is nothing more than those in power that continue to be big fish and meat, and ordinary people continue to endure hunger.

Airdropping of food is even more nonsense. The old broken airships in their hands only put more than a dozen tons of food into the city every day. It seems a lot, but it is actually a drop in the bucket.

If you don’t worry about lack of food but unevenness, and don’t have enough food to be placed, you can only grab it. In a sense, putting food into the city is not to solve the problem, but to intensify the conflict.

Even though he knew it was a bad idea, Carlos had to adopt it because he had no better choice now.

As a reserve king, he always needs to do something when the people are in dire straits. Even if these measures have serious sequelae, the starting point is always good.

Throughout history, there have been too many good intentions to do bad things, and they were eventually forgiven; those who actually do good things often face accusations of impure motivations.

Carlos naturally has no lack of political skills to stand out from the many candidates. If he is really a useless person, even if the nobles are willing to accept a useless puppet, the Bourbon Dynasty would not have made him look embarrassed.

The situation in France is so chaotic that no matter who goes up, he doesn't want to gain a foothold if he doesn't have enough methods.

Looking at the problem from another perspective, the more chaotic the situation in Paris is, the greater the casualties, and the smaller the hidden dangers it will face after receiving it in the future.

After this chaos is over, it is estimated that for a long time in the future, the people of Paris will be tempted by the revolutionary party.

...

The wheel of history rolls forward, not something that can be stopped by personal will. On December 7, 1893, the radical revolutionary regime led by Daniele was destroyed in the vast ocean of people's war.

On December 10, the Bourbon Restoration Group led by Carlos officially entered Paris. On the 12th, Carlos was crowned king in the dilapidated Palace of Versailles, and since then France once again started the Bourbon era.

The restoration was successful, and Carlos, who looked at the messy Palace of Versailles, recaptured the Bourbon lands, was not happy at all.

The hard years have just begun. Not only the Palace of Versailles is ruined, but the entire France is in ruins. Resettlement of refugees, restore the economy, and repay debts have become three mountains that are pressing on Carlos.
