Chapter 1129 1129 Difficulty in choosing

Humans are animals that are very easy to contradict themselves. Too many choices are bothering, and not having choices are bothering. Because too many choices means that every choice has risks, and naturally it needs to be measured and considered. Often, the so-called careful consideration will make the problem more and more complicated; but on the other hand, no choice means that there is no way out, forcing oneself to a corner, and the anxiety and troubles in the dilemma also make everything bitter.

But the fact is that without a choice means burning the boat. As long as you resist the pressure, you can achieve unexpected results and clear the clouds and fog to see the bright moon; too many choices can easily stimulate the greed and desire deep in human hearts. Hope, you always hope to find a perfect choice, and thus gain more, "not willing to give up, but reluctant to give up", which will cause many people to pieces.

This is what Hugo is. After the Golden Raspberry Award, he was forced to the edge of the cliff. He had no choice. He had to try his best to seize an audition opportunity and approached his full strength. He was not qualified to choose. "Smelling the fragrance to recognize women" seems not the right choice in the eyes of others, but in the face of a desperate battle, Hugo broke out a bloody path.

Now, Hugo has so many choices in his hands. Ten of them were selected from more than 20 scripts. After a round of exclusion, there are still four scripts left behind. Which one to choose? Which one to abandon? They all seem to be correct, but they all seem to be wrong.

There is no absolutely correct choice, only the one that suits you the most. Hugo has always known this clearly, but when hesitates when he really encounters problems, he is still inevitable to hesitate. This is a contradiction between people and everyone understands the truth, but not every time he can follow the steps.

"Twelve Monkeys", "Seven Deadly Sins", "Mission Impossible", "Brave into the Deadly Island", if these four scripts are based on the current situation of the elite agency, including Rick's expectations, the "Twelve Monkeys" should be eliminated first.

"Twelve Monkeys" are too niche and too unique. The box office results after they are released are not satisfactory, and the reputation of the film critics is quite good. But compared to the film critics, this work really made a classic after the video tape was released, and it showed its charm through word-of-mouth among the audience.

The situation of this work is very similar to "before sunrise", or more accurately, and very similar to "Shawshank Redemption". The same is the sought after by the audience, which makes the movie a classic, and the main characters have a test of acting skills. However, from any perspective, "Twelve Monkeys" are one number smaller than "Shawshank Redemption". Missing "Shawshank Redemption" is just a little regret, so missing "Twelve Monkeys" is only the same.

Leaving the "Twelve Monkeys" is purely Hugo's personal preference.

Then, after Hugo has taken on "Pulp novels" and "before sunrise", and is facing the pressure of paying for agents in the circle, it is wise to give up "Twelve Monkeys".

Among the remaining three scripts, the attributes of "Brave the Deadly Island" are very distinct: commercial popcorn movies, this work is actually a typical representative work of Michael Bay in the early days. Later, the "Transformers" series also continued this style, dazzling sports footage, sharp editing style, hot special effects scenes, sensational explosion scenes, abuse of slow motion, abuse of wide angles, abuse of explosions.

Before "Pearl Harbor", these characteristics of Michael Bay were a beautiful landscape in Hollywood, opening up a new route for commercial blockbusters. Although film critics did not praise him, they all gave him affirmation. However, he relied on these three tricks to make the world visually tired, which caused many people to experience visual fatigue. From 1995 to 2014, this also made Michael's works worse and worse.

But I have to admit that Michael has a way to sell the box office. His simple and rough tricks have made the audience happy to watch the movie, which is also a kind of ability. Therefore, major film companies are still willing to trust Michael, so the audience is still willing to go to the cinema, so people call him "selling copies".

Hugo likes the work "Brave the Deadly Island". Although he doesn't like "Transformers" because of the plot flaws, Michael's early series of works, from "Jedi Men" to "Brave the Deadly Island", to "Armageddon", these popcorn movies make watching movies a pleasure.

What's more, "Brave the Deadly Island" gathers three superstars. Although they are not as tight as the "Stealing Fire" between Rial Pacino and Robert De Niro, they also have a unique flavor. So Hugo kept the script.

"Brave the Deadly Island" invests 70 million US dollars, which is considered a big production rank. However, since actors are all big names, Disney pays Hugo with relatively cautious pay. The initial proposal is 8 million US dollars, but it can still be negotiated. Rick doesn't mind this, because the movie is currently in contact with Sean Connery. If Sean nods and agrees to star in the role, then even if Hugo takes 8 million US dollars to star, media reporters probably will find it difficult to say anything to cooperate with such a top brand, it is very reasonable for actors to actively reduce their pay.

But objectively speaking, this work has no test of acting, and the character portrayal is even more pale and powerless. If Hugo plays, it is probably a choice to compete with Nicholas Cage for the same role or Ed Harris' villain. However, from Disney's attitude, they hope to borrow the positive influence of Hugo, and they are definitely not willing to "waste" Hugo's appeal on the villain.

This is Disney.

It is also a commercial popcorn movie, and a choice must be made between "Brave the Deadly Island" and "Mission Impossible". Compared with the former, the latter's advantage is that the character Ethan Hunter still has room to play, especially the first and second parts of the series. The plot has a small degree of portrayal of Ethan's personality and heart, of course this is not the point.

Choose to work with Sean in "Brave the Deadly Island"? Or choose to become a lone hero in "Mission Impossible" and replace your friend Tom Cruise as a agent role he has always liked?

This choice is very difficult.

Choose one of two. If you have to make a choice, Hugo should choose "Mission Impossible", not a question of whether it is correct or not, but a question of his personal preferences. However, Hugo guessed that no matter what choice he made, Rick would try his best to "go bravely to the Deadly Island" and "Mission Impossible". If both succeed, it is best. Hugo will make the final choice; but if any link does not fit, at least make sure that one project can be successful, this is the best solution.

Assuming that Hugo's plan is carried out, he must choose between "Mission Impossible" and "Seven Deadly Sins", which is a difficult problem, an unsolvable problem.

"Mission Impossible" is an absolute representative work of popcorn commercial films, while "Seven Deadly Sins" is an independent classic with a wide personality. From a certain perspective, the "Seven Deadly Sins" are actually quite similar to "Pulp novels". They do not talk about the subject matter or style, but rather their positioning in the entire market. They are both independent works, different styles from the mainstream market, and they are also difficult works that large film companies are unwilling to take over. However, the two works are both works that have won a lot of praise, works that are outstanding in box office, works that have left a deep impression in the long river of history, and more importantly, they are the second work of the two great directors and have achieved great success.

However, the "Seven Deadly Sins" has one advantage over "Pulp Novel", that is, the new line film company is willing to pay Hugo $10 million in pay. Although it is not 15 million, it is already an acceptable bottom line for Rick.

So, is it "Mission Impossible" or "Seven Deadly Sins"? This is a difficult choice. No matter which work you choose, you will not fail, and no matter which work you choose, Hugo will not regret it.

From this point of view, only "Twelve Monkeys" were eliminated in the end, and there were still three scripts competing. Obviously, Hugo had only one person, and he could only choose one.

This is a happy trouble. Hugo has begun to feel his brain hurt. But if he goes back, Hugo's troubles are troubles, he actually doesn't need to make a decision immediately. Just let it go and see what will happen in the end. The worst case is that he is useless, but Rick and Hugo will obviously avoid this. In addition, no matter which work they end up in, it is worth having fun.

After Rick left all the scripts, Joseph, Samora and Hugo began to read scripts at home during this period. Not only them, Carl, Alex, and Charlize also began to read these scripts because the scripts were everywhere, just like their casual reading materials.

They did not clarify a way of thinking about Hugo's works for the time being. Instead, Carl found a good proposal for Charlize, "reason and emotion" and "seven deadly sins".

At present, Charlize is still focusing on niche movies. She is not in a hurry to improve her fame. She hopes to polish her acting skills in low-cost movies, so the role is always the first factor for her consideration. After the filming "Before Sunrise", Charlize has been looking for a suitable role. Thanks to the recent good momentum of "Before Sunrise", Carl's plan to find a suitable script for her was very smooth, but unfortunately, she has not found a suitable script for the time being.

However, Carl has gained unexpectedly for Hugo. Hugo has not even started to meet with the director or producer, but Carl took Charlize to meet the producer first, which really made Hugo laugh and cry.

But Hugo didn't wait too long. As the hottest actor in Hollywood at present, no one of Rick's work went smoothly. Paramount actively found Hugo, but the person who met Hugo surprised Hugo. It was Steven Spielberg!
