Chapter 1140 1140 Three roles

Hugo always thought it was very interesting to interpret scripts, especially after he tried to write the scripts himself. Perhaps because Lancaster was born in the classical literature major, Hugo always had more of his own interpretations of the scripts. Regardless of whether these were over-interpretations or not, it at least made reading scripts a very pleasant thing.

In fact, a truly excellent script will not deliberately preach or actively instill their own ideas into the audience, which is too simple and crude. If the screenwriter and director can stand from the third party's standpoint, objectively explain the story, and then let the audience make judgments and slowly reminisce, this will make the story more exciting. Because there is no absolutely correct reason in this world unless it is a scientific law, everyone will have their own different views on the same thing, which is the reason why the whole world is rich and colorful.

There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand audiences, and that's the reason.

This is what Hugo did when he created "before sunrise". The debate between Jesse and Selena is not to draw a conclusion, but to exchange ideas between each other. They need to accept each other's differences and also trigger each other's inspiration. The audience will also have their own unique views after the movie is over. This is the greatest charm of the movie.

The same is true for the "Seven Deadly Sins". Hugo's understanding is a perspective, not necessarily correct, but it is a special point of view.

"So, in your opinion, this script is a tragedy, and all ideas are sublimated at the end." David Geffen was shocked. In fact, during the process of reading the script, David had countless thoughts in his mind, and he could feel the excitement of his blood. But he needed an opportunity to sort out his thoughts and summarize the thoughts that were about to come out in his heart. Just like when he was filming "Alien 3", he was very ambitious and had ideas, but after the filming it, it seemed that it was completely different from the ideas in his mind.

So, when he heard Hugo's remarks just now, David's head seemed to explode, and countless thoughts flocked out, not only Hugo's views, but also his own understanding, which kept blowing like a volcano. This feeling made David excited again.

"This is a tragedy, isn't it?" Hugo chuckled, most crime movies are tragedy, especially those involving serial killers. "It's just that the question is, where do you see this tragedy, Mills, Shamose? Or the Anonymous?"

David Mills, a young police detective; William Shamosey, a senior police detective; Anonymous, a serial killer. These are the three absolute core characters of the "Seven Deadly Sins".

David raised his head, didn't say anything, and looked at Hugo seriously. In the past two years, the media reported Hugo almost 360 degrees without any blind spots. It can be said that Hugo was criticized by people like a barefoot child. But at this moment, David really realized that maybe people could look at Hugo's appearance and Hugo's life thoroughly, but they had never really understood Hugo. What kind of wisdom is hidden behind Hugo's handsome face and what kind of vicissitudes have he experienced, making his amber eyes look so charming.

To be honest, before David came to the dinner today, he had no interest in Hugo at all. Compared to Hugo, he liked Brad Pitt more because he heard about Brad's excellence from many friends around him, and Hugo's choice of work seemed too "commercial" because he always saw people bragging about how strong Hugo's box office was. But now, this view is a question mark.

"You tell me now that you have read the script three times, but I still don't believe it. Are you sure it's only three times?" David finally relaxed and made a joke. "I can feel your enthusiasm for this script, but I'm not sure which role do you want to play?"

Hugo couldn't help but chuckled and joked, "Can I choose?"

"Of course, you are Hugo Lancaster, you have this ability, don't you?" David said vaguely, but he didn't say exactly what this ability actually refers to, whether it is connection or acting skills?"

Hugo thought seriously. If the three characters were really allowed to be chosen by him, which role would he choose to play? When he received the script "Seven Deadly Sins", Rick and Joseph took it for granted that Hugo would play the role of the male lead David Mills. Hugo's fixed impression before traveling through time was naturally David Mills, but now it's different.

David Mills's initial candidate was Denzel Washington, and William Shamosey's first candidate was Al Pacino. So what's impossible?

The movie "Seven Deadly Sins" is actually based on the story. The plot and core idea are the essence of the whole movie. Relatively speaking, the space for the three main characters is naturally not that big. But in fact, these three characters have very harsh tests on acting skills.

Mills is young and vigorous, unruly, impulsive, but he has a desperate impulse for work. At the same time, he is also competitive and eager to prove his work ability to others. The idea of heroism has not completely faded. This is actually the image of a typical young man. He has just walked out of society and has many dreams and expectations. He wants to show his strength and be idealistic and vigorous, believing that he can change the world by relying on his own abilities.

The setting of this character is relatively simple, but when Mills's thoughts are impacted, there is still a lot of room for performance in his heart to evolve to the final outbreak. It can be said that this character is a bit similar to Charlie played by Hugo in "Smelling the Scent of the Scent", but Charlie is even more student-oriented, and Mills has already left society.

Shamoses was in sharp contrast with Mills. He had experienced countless hardships and had become unstoppable and humiliating. He had seen too many dark sides of this society and had learned to handle cases smoothly. Only in this way can he survive in society. When the crime of Anonymous had begun to emerge, he realized that this might be a serial crime. His first reaction was to refuse to accept the case because he was afraid of causing trouble. Although he still had a sense of justice, he would give priority to himself than to the illusory upholding of justice. So what he showed was indifference and calmness.

The space for this character to play is limited, but many times Shamose's inner struggle is very delicate and has very strict requirements for the actor's control. Although Shamose armed himself with indifference, in fact, he still has hope deep down. He will not be as high-profile and arrogant as Mills, but in his own way, he will achieve the remaining justice in his heart. This kind of confusion, contradiction, joke and ridicule are often very calm, but cannot be ignored.

The Anonymous chapter is not long. Many clips about this character are glimpses, but they are displayed in extremely limited time and space, but they leave an extremely deep impression on the audience. He is a martyr who has completed punishment and redemption for God in his own way. He does not think he is wrong. Even after ending several lives, he believes that those people are worthy of death and there is nothing worthy of sympathy. So he is calm, calm, and even cold-blooded.

But in turn, he can also be regarded as a person who pursues perfection. The world he imagines must be perfect without any flaws. Therefore, when this society that can never be perfect cannot satisfy his ultimate wish, he chose extreme self-destruction. Before self-destruction, he destroyed others more extremely.

There is no doubt that the time left for this character is very short, but the space left for imagination is infinitely broad. Just like Dr. Hannibal in "Silenced Lambs", he is elegant but evil, and a few strokes make people shudder; and the evil and innocent, cruelty and calmness of the character Anonymous are perfectly reflected, and he has a kind of evil self-confidence and elegant disdain, which can almost be said to determine the ultimate ideological height of the "Seven Deadly Sins".

Hugo couldn't help but start to fantasize, if Denzel Washington plays Mills and Al Pacino plays Shamosey, what would that happen? Hugo suddenly discovered that perhaps the settings of Mills and Shamosey would have a certain degree of deviation, because the performance styles of the two people are different from those of Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.

The Brad version of Mills can only be said to have performed well. The scenes that broke out in the later stage are quite good, but overall they are a bit conservative, and they can only be said to be average. From this we can see that Brad at this stage knows how to play acting out but does not know how to control it, so he can have a wonderful performance when dealing with characters like "Twelve Monkeys", but it is a bit difficult for a character like "Seven Deadly Sins" to show an inner change.

The Morgan version of Shamosse is very exciting. His delicate and deep temperament gives the character more depth, and it can be said that he has completed the task well. But objectively speaking, it is not much more breakthrough than the "Shawshank Redemption", but this is Morgan's performance style, which lacks a little domineering and wantonness, and shows more calm control.

There is no doubt that Kevin Spacey's version of Anonymous is the biggest highlight of the film. It is weird and evil, calm but crazy, and almost makes the audience shudder in every move. However, Kevin's control in this role is still a little less than his perfect presentation in "Extreme Suspect", and it also makes this character who is comparable to Dr. Hannibal's ultimate breathless.

If Hugo had asked him to make a choice on his own initiative, what would his decision be?
