Chapter 1888 1888 Character Power

The praise of the Los Angeles Times almost pushed "Los Angeles Confidential" to the top. Although Nicholas did not say it directly, a message was revealed between the lines: this is the most outstanding work of Hugo since film, surpassing "Schindler's List", surpassing "Pulp novels", and surpassing "Seven Deadly Sins".

In fact, Nicholas's words "the perfect combination of business and art" are the greatest praise for movies. In the entire history of the film, there are only a few movies that can highly combine business and art, and now Nicholas has added another seat to it, and such praise is incomparable!

With a full score of 100 points, plus a full score of five-star recommendation, Nicholas almost gave all the praises to "Los Angeles City Secret". In addition to being perfect, it is perfect. Is it really good to have such a firepower? Wouldn't the audience expectation too high and disappointed? Wouldn't it be that everything will turn back, but instead made the audience repulsive of the movie? Wouldn't it cause verbal wars and let the audience pick their bones in their eggs?

Obviously, Nicholas was not worried because the famous Roger Ebert expressed his support for him. The Chicago Sun published Roger's professional film reviews at the first time, "Some people won the whole world, and some people won the Arizona trip from prostitutes. What do you choose?"

The title of this film is obviously a bit long, but it is everywhere Roger's biggest feeling about this film: choice.

"'Some people win the whole world, some people win the Arizona journey from prostitutes.' This is the last sentence of the movie, a vivid and accurate sentence, but without losing the black humor. This is exactly the philosophy behind life. In the final analysis, life is about choice, and more importantly, what you choose.

We can discuss the extremely exciting work of "Los Angeles City Secret" on this topic: Three men, who would you choose?

The movie has three protagonists, Hugo Lancaster, Russell Crowe, and Kevin Spacey. The arrangement and setting of the characters are meaningful and intriguing.

Bad is played by Russell, impulsive, straightforward, hates evil like a grudge, has a hot temper, and is hitting the world with one fist. He can't stand all violent incidents. It seems that it is absolutely impossible to have anything to do with evil, but it becomes a tool for evil to exploit. The most interesting thing is that Bad is fanatical and paranoid about justice on the one hand, but on the other hand, he is willing to break the law for his partners. This represents the general public in society: adhere to legal justice, but in the face of ruthless laws, he is often prone to emotional acts, excessive punishment of criminals or lightly convicted of criminals because of sympathy. Emotion is the support that dominates them, and morality is their bottom line.

The movie gives Bard the most perfect ending, which seems to imply that as long as you stick to your integrity, you can get happiness and fulfillment. This is the most mainstream side of the whole story, but it is also the only hope left in the movie. Unlike the "Seven Deadly Sins", Bard's good beginning and good ending gives an answer: How should we survive in such a sinister and dark society?

Russell, who made his mark in Hollywood, is obviously the least trusted part of the entire crew of "Located City Secret", but there is no doubt that he completed the final task brilliantly, and the hot and fragile tenderness of the iron man was perfectly displayed, continuing this ray of sunshine of the dark society in a limited space.

Jack, played by Kevin, is a very interesting character. He is slick, elegant, elegant, calm, but he understands social rules, power and money transactions, is very fond of achievements, is smart and cunning. In fact, Jack represents the backbone of the current society. They have everything, wisdom, fame, and interests. They skillfully use the so-called potential. Rules seek benefits for themselves, but they never cross the bottom line, nor easily offend the interests of others, be kind and make money, be tactful, be familiar with the worldly style, and control most of the key institutions of society.

It can be said that Jack is the person who can truly live for a long time in this society, and this is the social reality. But the "Los Angeles Secret" gives Jack more soul. Behind the glamorousness, Jack's confusion and emptiness; Behind the drinking and clinking, Jack's loss and loneliness; Behind the success and fame, Jack's defense and loneliness... All these are common problems in contemporary society. Late at night after the party, the emptiness and loneliness in my heart turned all fame and fortune into bubbles, like fireworks, blooming brightly but fleeting.

Kevin's performance that lifts weights like a lesson and is invisible clearly interprets Jack's inner delicacy and levels, giving this character a new vitality. The afterglow is deep and full of charm, but it makes people unable to help but start looking for his own figure in him.

The movie gives Jack a chance to break through himself and pursue his dreams. Jack seized it, but whether it was realized or not can only be left to the audience to judge himself. This is the most profound and private question and answer in his heart after the story ends. Maybe everyone’s answers are different, maybe everyone’s choices are also different, but it is a wake-up call in his heart.

The final topic came to Hugo, and the Hollywood pride made a surprising choice again, and he played the role of Ed. Although the movie is the best of the three protagonists, there is no doubt that Ed is the core of the core, because he carries the weight of the entire movie and shoulders the core of the entire movie.

Ed looked like an idealist, simply insisting on legal justice, and even offended his colleagues to maintain so-called justice. However, in fact, his intelligence and power skills are shocking. His cunning and indifference are in stark contrast to Bard, and he is even colder and more annoying than Jack. All the signs seem to be the mastermind behind the scenes. It is only a matter of time before he falls into darkness, but in fact, under the surface of his unscrupulousness is hidden the persistence of not giving up until justice is achieved, and finally breaks out.

At the beginning of the movie, two details appeared when Ed first appeared, but were ignored by many people.

The first detail is that Ed was indifferent to the injury of his colleagues in an interview with the media, but calmly believed that this was a collateral injury for his profession. The second detail is his seemingly useless conversation with Dudley, which sets the tone of the whole movie. Facing Dudley's three questions, "Will you use frame-up to ensure that the court convicts him? Are you willing to use torture to let the prisoner confess in a way that is severely tortured? Are you willing to shoot a naughty criminal from behind to prevent the lawyer from waive him? "Ed's answers are all decisive "no".

Both details are echoed in the second half of the story.

First of all, Ed not only chose to cooperate with Jack and Bud, who stood opposite, but also caused strong emotional fluctuations due to the two people's encounters, which made him understand what the friendship Bud insisted on was. This was the first change. Secondly, in order to pursue the truth, Ed agreed to Bud's use of violent confession. In the face of the real mastermind, Ed made a choice that went against his original intention, which was the second change.

The truth was found and justice was also advanced, but in this process, the simple heart of justice was irreversibly destroyed.

In fact, Ed's transformation is the transformation of the entire society. In the movie, Bard, Jack and Ed face the same problem: what was the reason for becoming a policeman in the first place? The answers of the three people are different. Bard's confusion, Jack's forgetfulness, and Ed's blindness all made the three people lose their original self and lose their direction in the erosion of social life.

This is precisely the reality of society. When was dream abandoned? It was ridiculous, cruel, and real, in the process of pursuing dreams. This discovery really made people desperate. Perhaps what we pursue was things that never existed, just like Ed, who pursued idealistic justice, but in the end he betrayed his dream step by step. He first chose evil means to uphold justice, and then traded interests with justice, achieving reality.

One step, another, just two steps, but it took Ed's entire life.

Ed is a portrayal of today's society. He was Bud at first, then Ed, then Jack, and then a high-ranking official. As for the end... will he become the mastermind behind the scenes? This became the biggest suspense left by the whole movie. At the end of the story, Ed took off his glasses, the glasses that represented his protection color, bathed in the sun, but there was a trembling cold.

Ed embodies all the director's ambitions and makes a profound and realistic interpretation of the changes in real society, with blood and ice thorns. Ed's transformation is undoubtedly the biggest challenge, and in the compact and dense plot, the space left for Hugo to play is really limited, even pitiful, but Hugo still did not disappoint us.

Hugo's interpretation is undoubtedly exciting and vivid. From the delicate change of expression to the complete change of eyes, Hugo gave Ed a complete personality and soul, which almost makes it difficult to distinguish between good and evil. However, without any explosion point and turning point, Hugo used a quiet performance to pave the role bit by bit. One look, one smile, one pause, and one gesture. The invisible performance was even more delicate and outstanding than Kevin. It formed a transformation almost before the audience could react, making every turning point real and credible, and smoothly connecting the entire movie.

The most typical ones are the three rival scenes between Hugo and Kevin, Hugo and Russell, Hugo and Charlize. The powerful aura can almost be said to dominate every moment. The emotional changes in every move are so strong that they can drive the emotions of every audience. Even glasses have become the finishing touch. The eyes, lines, expressions and movements have achieved a perfect combination, and the progress of each plot is quietly promoted. Such skills are very admirable.
