Chapter 1987 1987 Interpretation

In the version of "The Sixth Sense of Supernaturalness" that Hugo is familiar with, Bruce Willis plays Malcolm, Haley Joe Osmon plays Cole, and Toni Colette plays his mother Lynn.

The great success of the "Supernatural Sixth Sense" is closely related to the outstanding performance of the three actors, because the story itself is full of rich emotions. In the absence of a complete storyline, the whole movie is connected by the ups and downs of emotions, and the actors' performance maintains the quality of the finished product, which is somewhat similar to "before sunrise".

Among these three actors, Toni is an outstanding actor active in the field of independent film. Before the "Supernatural Sixth Sense", she relied on this "Mujiel's.wedding" to win the Australian Academy Award and was nominated for Best Actress in Music Comedy in the Golden Globes. Later, Toni was best known for her wonderful performance in "little.ss.sunshine" and won an Emmy and a Golden Globes with the TV series "The.united.states.of.tara".

Toni is the kind of actor who is not very popular but has made a fortune by relying on her solid and outstanding acting skills. She rarely appears in commercial blockbusters, and almost all of her works are independently produced works. Her performance methods that are profound in reality have been compared with Julianne Moore.

In the "Supernatural Sixth Sense", Toni's performance is very good, fully showing a mother who struggles inside but loves her children wholeheartedly. In fact, the space given to Toni in the movie is very limited, but she still shows that she has received countless praises in the future. This movie not only won Toni an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, but also became her stepping stone for entering Hollywood.

Hailey is undoubtedly the biggest discovery in the "Supernatural Sixth Sense". This child star who once played Forrest Gump in "Forrest Gump" fully demonstrates Cole's inner struggle and fragile, confused but firm traits, especially Cole's eyes that try to maintain a positive look in the siege of fear moved every audience. Almost all the emotional burst points of the entire movie become persuasive under Haley's interpretation.

Now Haili is an actor under the Engagement Elite Agency. Hugo previously collaborated with Haili on "Independence Day", and he saw the unlimited potential of this little guy. His spirituality and insight are among the rare outstanding among child stars. Many film critics call his performance in "The Sixth Sense of Supernaturalness" "the best child stars", which shows how highly respected him.

Relying on his outstanding performance of "Supernatural Sixth Sense", Haley not only won the Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, but also focused almost the weight and focus of the entire movie on him. It is worth noting that he is a supporting actor, not a male lead, but after the movie is over, many people will have an illusion that Cole is the protagonist of the movie. The same is true for Hugo himself.

On the one hand, it is indeed because of Haley's outstanding performance, but on the other hand, it is because Malcolm failed to meet expectations.

Bruce plays the role of Malcolm. First of all, he must be sure of his interpretation of this role. This is also one of the important links in the success of the film. Unfortunately, Bruce's ability is limited and he has not been able to truly explore the connotation of the role of Malcolm.

Just like Brad Pitt's performance in the "Seven Deadly Sins", the character has a lot of room to play, and he is the absolute number one male lead, but in the process of interpretation, Brad was unable to truly interpret the character, just completed the task in a normal manner, without making any mistakes, but not outstanding either. Therefore, all the light was snatched away by the anonymous in the "Seven Deadly Sins". Similarly, the one who left the deepest impression on people in the "Seven Deadly Sins" was Cole.

During his career, Bruce has never been an actor known for his acting skills, but has won people's love as an action actor. The "Die Hard" series is his famous work. But in fact, Bruce still has a certain acting foundation. He once made a guest appearance in "Friends" and won an Emmy Award.

Bruce is very suitable for interpreting a down-and-out man in a mid-life crisis. He can show the weakness and embarrassment hidden by ordinary men. Unfortunately, Bruce's interpretation ability is limited and not as far as facial paralysis is concerned. He can only show the loneliness, depression and fragility of a down-and-out middle-aged man, and it is easy to float on the surface and cannot conduct more delicate digging. In fact, in "Die Hard", Bruce plays the image of such a middle-aged man. When this image is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, almost any work he starred in is such an image, which shows Bruce's limitations.

In the "Supernatural Sixth Sense", the reason why the audience's sense of inclusion is that Malcolm himself is also a man who is in a midlife crisis. His painful past and family crisis make him in a state of confusion. Therefore, Bruce's overall image is very consistent. At the same time, Bruce also shows Malcolm's fragility, which is enough to push the story when it reaches the point.

This made people leave a good impression of Bruce in the "Supernatural Sixth Sense".

Hugo used to be the same. When he watched the movie, he thought that the role of Malcolm was limited to this. It was as if he was watching the "Seven Deadly Sins" that he would not think that the role of Mills was challenging at all. However, after changing his perspective, Hugo found that the role of Malcolm was far more difficult than Cole.

Simply put, what Cole needs to show is inner fear and confusion. Hailey fully demonstrates this trait and injects a heartbreaking fragility into the character. The simplicity that blooms from the depths of the child's heart easily touches the audience's heart. As an eleven-year-old actor, Hailey's performance is indeed amazing, but the character's development curve is relatively single.

But Malcolm is different. He first takes the responsibility of leading the audience into this story from an adult perspective. Therefore, his relationship with Cole starts carefully and gradually approaches. He first tries to enlighten Cole from the perspective of a psychologist, and then slowly believes Cole, and tries to help Cole understand that the existence of Yin and Yang eyes is not a harm, but a means that can be used to help others. Finally, he stands with Cole and is infinitely close to the child's heart.

In this process, Malcolm's prudence, temptation, understanding, change, sympathy, care and many other emotional changes are the key factors that determine the audience's experience of the movie. In the Bruce version of "Supernatural Sixth Sense", the audience's emotions are led by Cole, not Malcolm, which makes the movie too sensational. Many emotions come from sympathy for children, rather than adults' perspective of seeing the world, and aftertaste and reflection are greatly weakened, which also affects the possibility of the work reaching a higher level.

Secondly, Malcolm himself also bears the social miscellaneousness. In fact, in the whole story of "The Sixth Supernatural Sense", it is not simply the story of "a child has yin and yang eyes", it explores the fear of human beings from the heart.

The most direct thing is actually the relationship between Lynn and Cole. Lynn deeply loves her son, but she cannot understand Cole’s so-called Yin and Yang eyes. Most of the time, she just thinks that this is her son’s random thoughts and even repulsiveness. Cole is the same in her daily life. No one can understand him, and no one can accompany him, which makes him even more lonely in the ghost world.

This fear comes from all aspects, fear of change, fear of loneliness, fear of becoming an alien, fear of unknown, fear of mediocrity... This is the shackles of everyone's heart, and more often people choose to surrender and escape. This is why the social problems described in the "Seven Deadly Sins" appear, making society worse and worse. The "Supernatural Sixth Sense" gives its own solution or what Knight believes in, "love", family affection, friendship and love, making emotions a bond that maintains people, and work together to face those fears and overcome those fears.

The process from temptation to trust between Cole and Malcolm is precisely the bond of emotions; and Lynn's unconditional love for Cole has become the motivation for Cole to become brave; at the same time, the struggle and hesitation between Malcolm and his wife is a problem that every family must face and the source of everyone's struggle for.

It can be said that Malcolm carries this important core of the movie, which echoes the first point, because this is the aftertaste and reflection triggered by an adult perspective, and it is also Knight's understanding of family and emotions. According to the character setting and the connotation of the script, people should not be moved by Cole after watching the movie, but should be reflected on themselves with empathy and trigger further thoughts; but unfortunately, Bruce was unable to show the intimacy and bond of this emotion, which made the "supernatural sixth sense" stop at the mother-son relationship between Lynn and Cole, and the movie's stamina came to an abrupt end.

Malcolm is a very challenging character. As Knight said, he carries the connotation and depth of the entire movie, which determines that the movie is just a sensational film that makes people cry, or a classic that echoes deeply after the tears fill their eyes. Bruce's performance is worthy of recognition, but his limited ability is unable to truly interpret Malcolm.

The performance skills, the carving of details, the ability to interpret, and the fatal flaw of Blues led to the same result as Brad's "Seven Deadly Sins". The masterpiece is a masterpiece, but it is a breath away from the classics he passed down from.

When Hugo read the script "Supernatural Sixth Sense", he carefully savored the differences, but he did not organize his ideas clearly. Today, Knight revealed the entire core idea. This made Hugo look at it with admiration, because in Hugo's memory, Knight was not a director who had too many crafts about the characters. Most of his later works were horror films or commercial blockbusters. Hugo originally thought that Knight had insufficient understanding of his script, which led to the loss of the core idea of the "Supernatural Sixth Sense".
