Chapter 2113 2113 Super lineup

Hugo is an actor and then a screenwriter. This can be felt in both scripts "Before Sunrise" and "Fine" and his portrayal and carving of characters is indeed commendable. "Before Sunrise" won Charlize's first Oscar nomination, while "Fine" went a step further, allowing Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunter to win both Oscars.

This time the "beautiful soul" is no exception.

As the protagonist John Nash, Hugo devoted almost all his efforts, not only John's life, but also Hugo also consulted a large amount of psychological materials and talked to several different psychologists, trying to shape John's image in a completely three-dimensional way. The core content of the entire script is John's schizophrenia, which is really unimaginable for the performance process.

In the process of creating the script, Hugo actually entered John's spiritual world step by step, which is why script creation cannot be accelerated. Hugo spent more than 60 days to complete the script writing. In fact, although it has not been officially put into filming yet, Hugo has begun to slowly look for the rhythm of performance. It is just that Hugo has excellent control over acting skills now, so he has not completely lost control.

In addition to John, Hugo spent a lot of energy on the research of supporting roles and used a lot of ink to describe supporting roles. Because there was too much content, Hugo later had to spend more than ten days to delete the content and fine-tune the content of the script.

In fact, Hugo has created the character of Alicia Nash to be more precise. Hugo has created the whole story again. Because it is too difficult to truly present John Nash's life, and the background of the times is too grand, Hugo has adopted John's life structure based on the subject he sets, from genius to schizophrenia to the Nobel Prize to construct a semi-fiction story. Therefore, Hugo rewrites Alicia.

Alicia in the "Beautiful Mind" is actually quite complicated, but also more real. Her mentality changes, psychological struggles, and emotional ups and downs are the most real, and it can almost be said to be the situation that every normal person in real life may occur. But the only difference is that Alicia chose to stay, perhaps the power of love, perhaps the burden of responsibility, or perhaps the bond of friendship... Hugo did not deliberately point it out in the script, but left it to the audience to interpret it from her own perspective. However, it is certain that Alicia's persistence became the key to John's condition improvement, just like a dawn in the dark.

The role of Alicia may not be as complicated as Erin Ainos, but the performance is not inferior. Because this role requires Charlize to show that she is unwilling to show the softness and fragility of others. The delicate and sensitive struggle is like the gentle rising sun, weak but tough, tearing the dark haze bit by bit, allowing the sun to cover the earth again.

In fact, this character is somewhat similar to the fragility that Charlize showed in the "Devil Spokesperson". It also puts forward extremely high demands on Charlize's control.

Although Charlize is already two performing gold men, the road to performance is still very long. "Beautiful Heart" can definitely be said to be a brand new challenge. Hugo hopes that Charlize plays Alicia, which is not just a simple support for human relationships. Because Hugo knows that Charlize can play this role, but can interpret completely different styles. He is also looking forward to another scene with Charlize.

The same is true for other characters in "Beautiful Mind". Hugo was definitely not written for favors.

For example, William Pacher, Hugo hopes to be played by Leonardo. But in fact, at the beginning of writing this role, Hugo conceived the object of Ed Harris who just played Christopher's actor in "The World of Truman". However, with the improvement and modification of the script, Hugo felt that Leonardo was more suitable for this role.

William Pacher is a fictional character during John Nash's schizophrenia. In John's consciousness, William is a federal agent. He came to him in hopes that John can help break the enemy's password and maintain national security, which makes him a hero hidden behind history.

The appearance of this character is definitely not Hugo's inexplicable setting. After Hugo studied John's life, he found that although John was a genius since childhood, he was always a freak and was always ridiculed by people. He also disdained the so-called social communication, as if there was only mathematics in his world. However, in the depths of the subconscious, even in the subconscious that he himself did not realize, he still hopes to be recognized by society.

Perhaps it is not those ordinary people who have "no knowledge, no culture, no knowledge", but those who can truly appreciate his abilities, wisdom, and talent. He hopes that he is not just a nerd who studies mathematics, but he hopes that he can be recognized by the social elite and he hopes that he can truly create a career.

In fact, it is a sense of existence. Everyone needs a sense of existence. Even the smallest person will need his own sense of existence. Maybe it is the sense of existence of the head of the family, maybe it is the sense of existence of excellent grades, maybe it is the sense of existence of the whole world in the eyes of the loved ones... or maybe it is the sense of existence like John, who is recognized in a certain field.

Therefore, Hugo set the role of William Patcher. John virtually released William in schizophrenia. Although he "selled for the country" under William's forced, he actually enjoyed it. No matter how dangerous he was, he tried his best to "obey orders" because deep in his subconscious mind, he was eager to prove his value in this way, which also complemented John Nash's allegory about politics in real life, and buried clues of reality into the storyline in metaphor. Even if people later told him that this was a fictional character, he refused to believe it.

So Pacher has very distinct characteristics: mystery, authority, strength, rationality, wisdom, intelligence, cunning, and even insight into all conspiracies. This is John's definition of "authoritative person" deep in his heart.

Hugo originally wanted Ed Harris to play this role because Ed's image was positive, tall, serious, and a little ruthless. But later, he found that Ed was actually too strong, especially his acting style was completely open and tactful. He could show the authoritative side of Pacher, but it was not enough to outline the inner entanglement between Pacher and Nash. Strictly speaking, Pacher is actually a projection of Nash's heart, which is part of Nash. If you want to show this connection, Ed is not the best choice.

Later, Hugo considered Leonardo, and at first Hugo was very hesitant. Firstly, Leonardo was too young and far from the role; secondly, Leonardo's performance was more delicate but not thick. When the character lacked crutches, he could only rely on his acting talent to interpret it, so the rhythm of the performance was sometimes good and sometimes bad, and it was difficult to maintain a stable average level.

Because of the role of William Pacher, Hugo repeatedly reconceived the manuscript several times, but he never had a clear idea. Because when Hugo wrote the script "Beautiful Mind", he coordinated the fantasy role of John Nash. One is William Pacher, who represents John's dream, and is also a colleague, and is loyal; the other is Charles, John's roommate, who represents John's friendship, and is also a friend, and is trust; the other is Marcy, Charles' niece, who represents John's family affection, and is also a spiritual maintenance of the same illness, which is sympathy, softness, and love.

Finally, there is Alicia in real life, representing John's love. She is not only John's soulmate, but also John's trust, loyalty and softness.

Therefore, the settings and personality of each character are completely different, which is also the reason why Hugo needs to recreate the story of John Nash. John always refuses to talk directly to Hugo.

Later, after Charles, Marcy and other characters were perfected, Hugo suddenly realized that Leonardo's disadvantages were actually his advantage. Leonardo's youth was incompatible with the role, but this also complemented the fact that "William Pacher" was completely virtual. Especially when John became famous at a young age, he created game theory at the age of 21. Therefore, in his subconscious, William Pacher, who is also an authoritative figure, should not be a middle-aged man, but a top presence who is similar to him but has achieved success and fame. This made John even more eager to be a person like William.

In addition, Leonardo has always relied on crutches during the performance, but it was under Hugo's persuasion that he took on the filming of "Titanic". However, the performance space left by "Titanic" for Leonardo is still limited, and James Cameron is not a director who can capture actor performances.

Now, William Pacher, the "Beautiful Heart", can give him a perfect platform. Hugo used to be worried that after the "Titanic", Leonardo's acting exploration path would repeat the same mistakes, but now "Beautiful Heart" is a brand new opportunity, an opportunity to get Leonardo back on track. The only question is: Will Hugo believe in Leonardo's talent?

The answer is yes.

From Charlize to Leonardo, although they are all Hugo's close partners, this is definitely not emotional, but the result after careful consideration. As a producer, Hugo hopes that the "beautiful soul" can succeed more than anyone, so he pays more attention to details than anyone else.

As for Charles and Marcy, Hugo also has a curiosity in his heart. After a brief audition for the role of Charles, Heath Ledger successfully convinced Hugo; while Marcy was starred by Dakota Fanning, who was only six years old. When the entire cast was confirmed, Hugo discovered that he formed a dream team.
