1590 Counterattack 2

"Fire! Kill those machine gun fire points!" The covered wolf tank quickly locked the exposed machine gun position, and the rapidly rotating turret pointed at the target. A 75mm cannon fired tons of grenades and instantly swept over a dozen machine gun positions. The sound of the tank attack seemed to sound the horn of progress, the German armored forces began to accelerate, and the infantry also made a final charge!

The fierce confrontation stimulated the French's nerves all the time. When the Germans suppressed the machine gun fire and were ready to charge, the long-hidden French 75mm rapid-fire cannon finally started firing. They first aimed at the wolf-type tanks at a distance of 400 to 500 meters and fired dense armor-piercing bombs! The remaining machine gun team also began to counterattack the German infantry.

Boom! Tons of shells flew towards the German tank troops on the front, and gray-black smoke columns surrounded the moving tanks. The rapid and violent shooting swept across the battlefield like a steel storm, trying to tear apart everything they could encounter!

"Cast smoke bombs, evacuate! Follow up on the flanks!" Faced with the sudden strike, the Bavarian armored forces showed extremely high quality. The smoke bomb launcher on the tank first fired a series of smoke bombs. After more than ten seconds, the front of the tank was covered by smoke. Taking advantage of this time, the tank that had already entered the range of the French quickly retreated in reverse gear.

While retreating, the German counterattack also unfolded. The tanks, which were originally located on both wings of the wedge formation, quickly approaching the opponent and pulling the formation from the wedge into linearity! One cannon aimed at the fire point exposed by the French at a distance of 800. The fierce side-strike firepower followed one after another before the French reacted.

Just as a French gunner was trying to distinguish the outline of the German tank in the smoke screen, the dull sound of the rapid-fire cannon fire came from both sides. Looking sideways, orange fireballs flew quickly to this French position. The powerful high-explosive bomb easily exploded the chest cavity next to the bunker and the gun group inside to pieces!

The battle between the two sides is unequal. Heavy tanks wearing strong armor and holding sharp blades are used to deal with war defense cannons that cannot move and have extremely poor protection. Once the opponent is exposed, it means that death is not far from death! More importantly, the horizontal shooting range of war defense cannons is very narrow. If they want to attack the enemy on the side, they must first redeploy the artillery. However, the Germans naturally would not give the French time to redeploy. When French gun groups put away their monopods and dragged the cannons hard to turn, the firepower of the German tanks and the infantry in front crossed together, forming a fire net that was enough to tear everything apart!

The brief hesitation and convulsions were enough to make the French lose their last chance. The tanks that had originally retreated on the front rushed up after the French firepower was weakened. Along with them were mortar groups and semi-tracked vehicles carrying large-caliber machine guns! The latter even advanced to a distance of no more than 300 meters from the French defense line! The fierce machine gun firepower suppressed all the French infantry and machine gun groups in the trench!

The engineers took advantage of the situation to rush up and use the detonating cable to clear the minefield. The machine gun team covered the crossfire at a distance of about 250 meters, while the vanguard team carrying submachine guns and semi-automatic rifles rushed into the trench. First, a round of attack grenades, and a section of the trench was instantly flooded by flames and smoke. After confirming the safety of the breakthrough site, the vanguard team jumped into the trench and used the submachine gun to start cleaning up the remaining infantry. Then they thought about the rapid-fire gun position to launch an attack!

When the last French rapid-fire artillery group was destroyed by a 120mm mortar shell, the entire position was declared lost, and the remaining French troops without anti-tank weapons chose to surrender. The subsequent infantry entered the position and began to confiscate weapons and deploy defenses. The tank troops made a brief supply and adjustment and then advanced towards the next line of defense!

"Awesome!" It took less than 30 minutes to see the Bavarian Legion breaking through its first line of defense. Major General Davide had to give a very high evaluation of the Bavarian Legion's combat effectiveness! Tactical terms, it was actually the cooperation of tanks and infantry groups. If it were war games, Major General Davide could also think of it, but in actual combat, the French would definitely not be able to achieve such cooperation!

The Bavarian army embodies the overall quality! Each of them knows what to do at a certain point in time! Major General David even suspected that when he was counterattacked by anti-tank guns, the German tank attack formation changed from wedge to horizontal formation, and then changed from frontal attack to side attack, did the commander of the German armored forces issue orders? Did the opponent spontaneously complete the tactical transformation!

After all, radios in this era were just coffee tables, and the number of units was definitely not large. Information transmission itself was a problem. If you want to command a tank unit with just a few words or signals, it actually depends more on the tacit understanding and cooperation between each other. You can understand that this is the "micro-operation" of the battlefield.

The control of tank troops is so painful, so the cooperation between tanks and infantry will be even more troublesome. To be honest, so far, the French's infantry and tank coordination is still in the category of tanks helping infantry to block bullets and clean firepower points with them. To put it bluntly, the French used tanks as firepower support for infantry during attack. The two sides were not integrated. However, look at the Germans. While tanks were clearing fixed firepower points, infantry also took the initiative to attack to help tanks deal with combat defense artillery and possible threats. Tanks suppressed, infantry shot into wedges, and then tanks followed up, expanded and consolidated the breakthrough, and then shook the entire defense line with the infantry!

The Bavarian armored forces are powerful, and the seamless connection between the firepower and advancement between the two sides. How can the infantry's machine guns and mortars cooperate so well with the flat-fire firepower of tanks?! The French said they were puzzled!

Of course, if the French make excuses, they can find many reasons for their failure, such as lack of firepower suppression, such as lack of strict defense positions. But in fact, as a commander from the Western Front, David is very clear that if it were replaced by the Western Front, the French army might not be able to do better! After all, as the offensive party takes the initiative in the battle, if the Bavarian Legion attacks, how could it not concentrate its superior long-range artillery for suppression and division?

So, if it is considered to be a support for artillery, it is actually a subtraction of the French army. By the same token, the French still have a slight advantage in terms of military strength this time. If it is an offensive battle, Bavaria, as the attacking party, must be the dominant force. Although the lack of a consolidated position is indeed true, look at the sky, today's weather limits the attack of the Bavarian Air Force, so be content! When facing the attack of the Bavarian Legion on the Western Front, the French will only perform worse than today!
