Chapter Essence Dregs

In fact, many important officials in the court had this concern. Zhao Bing knew it well and used this many times to "coerce" everyone to submit. But he also understood very well that this matter was easy to say but difficult to do. Creating an ideology and political system was probably more difficult than destroying the Mongol Yuan, and for an ignorant person like him, he could only save money.

As we all know, Confucianism has existed and developed for two thousand years since Confucius established the theories. Since the Han Dynasty respected Confucianism, the Central Plains dynasties have used this as the foundation of the country. Even ethnic minority regimes favored it and formed the concept of governing the country with Confucianism from top to bottom. Although it is an imperial society, in fact, the scholars control the country. Some scholars even boasted that the country is the world of scholars, and the emperor is their puppet. Although this is true at some times, how uncomfortable it is for the emperors to hear it!

As a modern person, Zhao Bing naturally knew that after the founding of the Song Dynasty, Taizu implemented the national policy of "governing the world with scholars and officials", and raised Confucianism to the supreme level. The status of scholars also rose with the flow, praises it as the best era for later scholars. Among them, there were many people who were brave enough to plead for the people and sacrifice their lives for the country, as well as many knowledgeable people who were reforming and enterprising, but there were also the most national scum in history.

When he started a sect, Zhao Bing always thought that it was something that only saints could do. He never had the ability to overthrow a system that had lasted for thousands of years and re-established a new political system, and there was also a reason why it could not be told by outsiders.

According to some historians, Confucianism was established by Confucius' development and innovation in the Zhou Li. The author of the Zhou Li was Zhou Gong, and this Zhou Gong was neither the other person nor the uncle of King Cheng, the younger brother of King Wu, who was a real ruling class. Sometimes the butt determines the head. As the ruler, we let him think about problems from the standpoint of the ruled, which is a hard work for others.

Those who have a little brain will think that Confucianism based on Zhou Li is inseparable from the eleventh dream and the people. History has repeatedly proved that even the down-and-out Confucius and Mencius were also ruling class who ate imperial grain and served the royal power. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to say that the starting point of Confucianism's thought is to safeguard the interests of the class they live in.

Mencius has a famous saying: People are the basis, the country is second, and the king is the least. Zhao Bing is often educated by his masters with this sentence, and his ministers often start with this sentence. According to the normal understanding of this sentence, this sentence expresses this meaning: the most important resource of a country is the people, the second most important resource is grain, and the most important one is the king. With the people and sufficient food, you have the capital to dominate.

This sentence seems to give you a glimpse of people-centeredism. But Zhao Bing felt something was wrong. If you use this sentence to make a metaphor, electricity corresponds to hegemony, people, people, and Jun, respectively, power grid power stations and people who use electricity. In this way, electricity is naturally the least amount of electricity. So what does electricity mean to the power grid and power stations? What does electricity mean to the people who use electricity?

This metaphor may be a bit extreme, but Zhao Bing thinks that this is actually the case. After understanding the inheritance of Confucianism and its ideological foothold, then look at the countries under Confucianism. Everyone knows that Confucius, the founder of Confucianism, lives in Qilu, and according to materialism, it is that matter determines consciousness. The culture and Confucian culture in Qilu at that time were in line with it, and it can be called a country under Confucianism.

In this way, according to the Confucian viewpoint, their thoughts can make the country prosperous and strong, but the reality of Lu was not. As early as the beginning of the founding of Lu, Duke Zhou believed that Lu would definitely be subject to Qi in the future. Because his son used his theory to govern Lu, while Duke Jiang Taigun followed the local customs to govern Qi.

Then why would Duke Zhou, who was regarded as a god by Confucians, be so disdainful of his theory? That is because he understood that his theory was very dogmatic. Once he lost what he lived, it would easily become rigid. It was not a panacea. Wherever he placed it, he would also be disobedient to the local environment. The history of thousands of years also proved Duke Zhou's concern.

The Han people had a special favor for the Han Dynasty. Zhao Bing thought that in addition to its strength, it was also the only dynasty named after a nation. Confucianism was also admired by the Han Dynasty, probably because Emperor Wu of Han promoted their sage masters as national teachers, and since then it became a symbol of the mainstream national thought. Emperor Wu of Han drove out the Huns and forged the great achievements of the Chinese nation. The contributions were naturally attributed to the implementation of Confucianism, thus making the Han Dynasty stronger.

However, is history really that simple? Obviously not, at least not all. When Zhao Bing was not emperor, he understood that money and food were the guarantee of victory. Without money and food, it would be impossible to move forward without a step. He had no food to eat. Who would restore the country with you? If you don’t have money to build weapons, the wooden sticks and stones may not even be able to beat the primitive people, so it would be better to commit suicide and save your worries.

Therefore, the reason why Emperor Wu of Han was able to create a grand event in the Han Dynasty was that Zhao Bing thought that it was mostly because of the wealth accumulated by the Wen and Jing dynasties. He also believed that if Emperor Wu of Han later promoted Confucianism and cut off other ideas, which led to the emergence of talents, perhaps Emperor Wu of Han could have achieved even more brilliant achievements in his dynasty, at least he could completely eliminate the Huns on the vast grasslands.

Of course, no matter what, history cannot be assumed, and it is impossible for anyone to have the opportunity to try again like himself. However, the idea that Emperor Wu of Han created the prosperous Han Dynasty has long been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Let’s look at the Wang Mang regime, which is a regime that is completely governed according to Confucian classics. What is the result? It made people’s livelihood boil and out of control, and was finally driven off the throne of the emperor by Liu Xiu.

Let’s look at the Ming Dynasty. In the eyes of future generations, it was a very barren dynasty. There is a saying that the tax revenue of the Ming Dynasty for ten years was not as good as the tax revenue of the previous dynasty Song Dynasty. Such a barren dynasty was the era of the prosperity of Confucianism. The representative figure among them was Hai Rui, who was honest and polite to the people and praised it by later generations. However, he did not bring wealth to the country and the people. The reason why he was thrown out was because the Ming Dynasty had a large number of dirty officials and eunuchs were in power, so he could not choose a perfect scholar.

This result is because Confucianism occupies the dominant position, squeezes the living space of other schools, and to a certain extent, it curtails innovative thinking. Agriculture-based thinking also leads to lag in industrial development, which in turn implicates the development of commerce. The unrest of industry and commerce have also caused China, a country that has long broken through the first level of human civilization, to almost stagnate its development, and has not been able to evolve from agricultural civilization to industrial civilization in one fell swoop.

Of course, in Chinese history, dynasties with Confucianism as the main body also had the so-called "Zhenguan Governance", "Kaiyuan Prosperity", "Jianlong Governance", "Jiayou Governance", "Hongwu Governance" and "Kangqian Prosperity", but it is undeniable that their birth was mostly at the beginning of the founding of the country when the dynasty was changed, or when the cultural exchanges with the outside world were smooth. This period was often a period when Confucianism was weakened to a certain extent.

Of course, Confucianism is constantly improving, from Confucius to Mencius, Xunzi to Zhu Xi and then to Wang Yangming and Li Zhi, they are all changing. But we must admit that their struggle has not achieved complete success. What the rulers intercepted is always just a part of the idea that is suitable for maintaining their rule. Why is the two thousand years of struggle such a result?

The reason is nothing more than this: Confucianism must be implemented by relying on the power of the ruler. This is a flaw of Confucianism and there is no way to remedy it. Even Confucius could not think of a way. He could only use preaching. He used Yao and Shun to teach the ruler, but if the ruler was not a good student, Confucius' benevolent politics would become a castle in the air.

Among the emperors for thousands of years, there are many capable kings, with foresight and great knowledge, and they will not be unable to see the flaws of governing the country by Confucianism. However, they did not make any changes. Zhao Bing thought that in addition to the symbiosis and coexistence between the two, there was another important reason that Confucianism made reasonable presumptions for the existence of imperial power, which was like God gave the emperor the scepter to implement dictatorship, acting on behalf of Heaven.

Zhao Bing knew that if he completely denies the polity and overthrows the literati-official system of governing the country at this time, it can be said that he is firing himself. After all, his lofty and supreme position was based on the blessing of Confucian saints and then received the support of scholars. Otherwise, why would they support a little kid who still pee and mud as the leader of a country and support the descendants of the Zhao family to be the emperor?

What's more serious is that the old ones will be completely abolished before a new political structure is established, which will inevitably bring extremely serious consequences, leading to the overturn of the entire national structure and the society will fall into chaos. At that time, not only will they lose the support of the ruling class and be dismissed by them first, but they will also cause national crisis and harm the people.

Besides, feudal society is also an inevitable stage of historical development. If you skip over and make up for it in the future, it will cause historical shocks. Therefore, Zhao Bing must uphold the development of history and dare not make such a big change. But this does not hinder himself from transforming their ideas and guiding them to the next stage of history.

The Confucian cultural surgery that has been developing for thousands of years in modern terms is to "take the essence and remove the dross". What are the essence and which are dross, this requires Zhao Bing to carefully consider. However, those who are blocking their own way and threaten their status must be "dross". Now the monkey has jumped out. Which chicken should be killed and how should he kill? Zhao Bing must carefully plan before returning to Beijing and complete it while ensuring the stability of the situation.
