Chapter 37: Tears are low and the cow's clothes are shining
Zhao Xin shook his head at Lu Shoushan: "I am not a bannerman."
Zhao Xin remembers it very clearly that ten years ago, his father took him to a relative's house to visit. In terms of seniority, his father wanted to call the old lady Grandma Qi.
During the conversation, the grandmother of the Seventh Patriarch mentioned that our Zhao family moved from Jiangsu in the early Qing Dynasty, but the old lady couldn't say where it was, it seemed to be Yancheng.
"All of us are not your Qing subjects. You still don't understand after seeing our clothes?" Wu Siyu explained to Lu Shoushan.
"Yes, no one here has braids. It's said that they are overseas survivors." Liu Sheng said, "Are you talking to the side."
After hearing this, Lu Shoushan felt relieved. Like the Xu brothers, there were tattoos on both sides of his cheeks, and the "Ningguta" on his left face was stabbed "disobedience" and the "Ningguta" on his right face.
This is also the reason why the four of them dare not hide in a village with people. Anyone who sees them knows that they are runaway people, and they can receive rewards when they catch the officials.
Lu Shoushan begged: "Master, let me take a look at the young master, I won't wake them up."
However, Zhao Xin didn't say anything, walked straight to the car, gently unscrew the car door, and waved to Lu Shoushan behind him.
Lu Shoushan tiptoed to the front, looked into the door, which scared him.
When he was in the Xu family before, he had never seen such a wealthy decoration.
Zhao Xin pushed Lu Shoushan into the car, and he followed him and closed the door. He patted Lu Shoushan on the shoulder, and then pointed to the bed where the two children were.
After getting on the car, Lu Shoushan was dazzled by the furnishings beside him and took a deep breath. He didn't dare to move at all. He followed Zhao Xin's finger and saw the two brothers lying in the quilt, and the quilt was rising and falling with his breathing.
"Sir, where is my brother?" Lu Shoushan slowly turned around and bowed to Zhao Xinyi and asked.
Zhao Xin turned around and pointed to another bed. When Lu Shoushan saw that it wasn’t Pan Xiucheng, his face was facing the outside and he was sleeping soundly.
He felt relieved. Seeing Zhao Xin waved at him, he followed Zhao Xin out of the car.
When Zhao Xin closed the car door, he returned to the place where he was standing. Lu Shoushan quickly stepped forward, knelt down and kowtowed Zhao Xin continuously.
"If you want to kneel down like this, I won't care about you anymore." Zhao Xin said to Lu Shoushan with a serious face.
Lu Shoushan kowtowed three times respectfully, then stood up and said to Zhao Xin: "I am thanking the master for these three heads for the Xu family. If Master did not help him, the Xu family would be defeated."
"Xu family?" Zhao Xin thought for a while, but he had no impression. "Can you tell me what happened to you guys?"
"Master, can you find a secluded place? There are so many people here?" Lu Shoushan looked at the refugees busy in the camp around him.
"Okay. Angkor, you guys come together." After Zhao Xin finished speaking, he turned to Liji, who was standing beside him, and said, "Find a tent without anyone, ask two people to come and stare, don't let someone listen."
In fact, this is for Lu Shoushan to listen to. Except for Zhao Xin and the others in the camp, who can understand?
What no one noticed at this time was that Liu Sheng turned around and left.
Li Ji went there hurriedly, and after a while he trotted back and said that the tent was ready.
So Zhao Xin asked Liji to lead the way, and himself, Lushoushan, and Wang Yuanfang came to a tent on the outside of the camp. After sitting down for a while, Liu Sheng, Ding Guofeng, Zhao Liang and Deng Fei also came. It turned out that he was going to call someone.
Everyone sat cross-legged on the cotton mat in the tent. Soon, Shino and Amy entered the tent with a pot of tea and a few cups.
After pouring tea for several people, Shino retreated and Amyo stayed outside the tent to wait so that Zhao Xin could give instructions.
Lu Shoushan held the teacup, thought for a while, and asked Wu Siyu: "Master, can you speak our Dongtai dialect, do you know the Yizhu Building of Dongtai County?"
Wu Siyu shook his head in confusion and said, "My ancestors were from Yangzhou, and I have only learned a little bit of Dongtai dialect after hearing people."
Seeing that he didn't know, Lu Shoushan said, "This incident happened in the Xu family five years ago. However, the foundation of this incident has to start more than 40 years ago..."
As Wu Siyu translated some dialects and local languages among a group of people, a past that made everyone who heard it was sad was told by Lu Shoushan.
Lu Shoushan was once called Xu Shan, and was once the follower of Xu Shounan's grandfather. He also read some books when he was a teenager. Because he joined the Xu family as a servant since childhood, he followed his surname Xu; as for the Pan Xiucheng, who was still pretending to be a slut, he was the coachman of the Xu family, and he was originally named Xu Xiucheng, who was originally named Xu Xiucheng.
Lu Shoushan followed Xu Shounan's grandfather for many years. When he grew up, he was very appreciated by the Xu family because he had done several errands. Later, he changed his surname and added the word "Shou" to his name.
The Xu family was originally the largest gentry in the squid in Dongtai County, Dongtai County, near Taizhou, Jiangsu Province. The matter started with the great-grandfather of Xu Shounan, the master of the Xu family, and the old master Xu.
This old master Xu, whose original name was Xu Shukui, was named Xiaowen.
In the third year of Qianlong (1738), Xu Shukui passed the provincial examination at the age of 35. However, because he wrote the sentence "The rituals are the ones who commit suicide" on the answers to the test paper, this violated the taboo of the examiner. Therefore, he failed to pass the examination by the Ministry of Rites, and was also disqualified from the qualification to take the imperial examination in the future, and he had no chance of getting involved in the officialdom since then.
This incident was rumored in Dongtai Town back then. Lushoushan once heard his master Xu Huaizu talk about it several times, so he remembered it.
It is said that Xu Shukui was disappointed that he had to return to his hometown to study and write poetry. He built a book building in his yard. Because there was a large pillar in the center of the book building, the beams were placed on this pillar like umbrella bones, and later named it "Yizhulou".
In the 27th year of Qianlong (1762), Xu Shukui died in depression and was less than 60 years old.
This chapter is not over, please click on the next page to continue reading! After Xu Shukui's death, Xu Huaizu, the grandfather of Xu Shounan, invited two scholars, Xu and Shen Chengzhu, to organize their father's works, and then asked the famous scholar to write a preface for their works and publish a book. This is "Yizhulou Poetry Collection".
In the past ten years, no one has ever suggested to Xu Huaizu that there are fallacies in these books of his father.
Until the 42nd year of Qianlong (1777), Cai Jiashu, the second son of the Cai family in the same village, became resentful because of a land dispute with the Xu family.
Simply put, the boss of the Cai family sold his own land to the Xu family because of the loss of family. However, the Cai family's ancestral tomb was in this field. At that time, the Xu family left a mu of land around the Cai family's ancestral tomb and returned it to the Cai family.
Later, Cai Jiashu verbally bumped into Xu Huaizu because of the donation in the village. Xu Huaizu talked about Cai Jiashu's son's head shaved on the National Merit Japanese, and sued the Cai family to the county government, forcing the Cai family to donate. Cai Jiashu held a grudge from him.
In the summer of this year, Xu Huaizu suffered from an emergency and died.
The head of the Xu family was replaced by Mr. Xu's son Xu Shitian, the father of Xu Funan and Xu Shounan.
After the winter began, Cai Jiashu came to the door and said that he wanted to redeem the land that had sold 2,400 taels of land that year for 960 taels. How could Xu Shitian agree to this request? He bombed him on the spot.
As a result, Cai Jiashu said before leaving the door that Xu Shitian's grandfather's "Yizhulou Poem Collection" had the words "destroy the dynasty" and he wanted to sue the official.
Xu Shitian immediately found his grandfather's disciple, Xu and Shen Chengzhuo, who were also the book compilers. These two old scholars were listed on the homepage of the book as proofreaders of Yizhulou's collection. ("Chengzhuo" secretly agreed with the intention of shaving his hair in the Qing Dynasty)
Several people carefully pondered the words and sentences in their works and found that some words did cause criticism. However, the literary atmosphere at that time generally believed that good poetry should have a strong character, and it would not be considered a top-notch without complaining.
Moreover, among the people who wrote the preface for "Yizhulou Poetry Collection", in addition to Yao Delin, who was then the ambassador of the salt farm, the other one was Shen Deqian, a great scholar in Suzhou who was once called "an old famous scholar in Jiangnan" by Qianlong. After his death, he was posthumously named the crown prince and the grand sect, and was given the posthumous title of Wenqian, and was given the posthumous title of Wenqian, and was sacrificed in the virtuous temple.
After several people discussed it, Xu Shitian decided to hand over the engraved and distributed books and the book versions to the county government office, and other unengraved books were later handed over one after another.
After Cai Jiashu on the other side returned, at the instigation of his steward Tong Zhilin, the two found the "violent words" in Xu Shukui's works, and then submitted a complaint to the county government, which mentioned the dispute between them and the Xu family on the complaint.
Tong Zhilin also had a grudge with the Xu family. He wanted to join Taizhou school in his early years, so he asked Xu Shukui for help, but the other party agreed, so he held a grudge for many years.
When Tu Yuelong, who was the magistrate of Dongtai at the time, interrogated the case, he also noticed that the books contained poems such as "I really hate to destroy my clothes and get rid of my nest in the Ming Dynasty." However, because he did not want to directly conflict with a large gentry like the Xu family, he sent the manuscripts, stereotypes and books to Jiangning Bookstore to wait for processing.
In the judgment, the magistrate Tu first praised Cai Jiashu's behavior. However, it was said that the Xu family had already handed over the engraved books to the county government office before the Cai family came to the first report, so they were exempted from investigation according to the law. As for all Xu Shukui's writings, he would send someone to Jiangning Bookstore for review and pending; as for the land dispute between the Cai and Xu families, the Xu family ordered the Xu family to allocate ten acres of tomb fields and redeem them on time.
After the county verdict was announced, Cai Jiashu was dissatisfied. In the 43rd year of Qianlong's reign, he continued to sue the Jiangning Fanshi.
Tao Yi, the governor of Jiangning at that time, had no intention of caring about such trivial matters, so he let one of his capable aide Lu Yan handle it on his behalf.
After some understanding, Lu Yan issued a license to ask Yangzhou Prefect Xie Qikun to come to try the case of Dongtai County. He believed that the first complaint from Cai Jiashu was "a troublemaker who was attracted by the dislike."
In the card sent to Yangzhou Prefecture, Lu Yan finally wrote this passage: "Talking about the scriptures and scriptures, and publishing them as songs and chantings. If the words and sentences are not checked, and there is no rebellion, the person who will raise the head will sit according to the law for the crime of falsehood, and there is a clear statement. If Cai Jiashu is accusing him of accusation and thinking about his plans, he should also strictly enforce the proposal."
To put it bluntly, there is no problem, it is purely a false accusation.
After reading the card text, the governor Tao Yi did not make any modifications. He just smiled and said that Lu Yan was jealous of evil and was vividly revealed on the paper. Tao Yi did not expect that it was his carelessness, which eventually led to a huge disaster.
After receiving the card issued by the vassal officer, the prefect of Yangzhou Xie Qikun immediately issued a document ordering Dongtai County to detain the first lawsuit and the defendant in the case and sent him to Yangzhou.
After the opening of the court, Xie Qikun carefully looked through the "Yizhulou Poetry Collection". Finally, he determined that there were indeed words that were hindered and rebellious in the collection. The Cai family told the Xu family to engrave the anti-poem, but he was right.
After the second time he was promoted to the court for inquiries, Xie Qikun escorted the collection of poems, case files of Dongtai County, and all the book versions to the yamen of the governor.
Who knew that before the reply from the Fansi had arrived, Cai Jiashu's son and housekeeper Tong Zhilin took the lawsuit to Liu Yong, the Jiangsu Academy of Sciences who was staying in Yangzhou.
That's right, it's that Liu Yong.
After receiving the paper and a collection of poems as evidence, Liu Yong's aides found out that the matter was serious and immediately reported it.
The first person to notice that the preface in the book was written by Shen Deqian, a great scholar in Suzhou, and it was full of praise. The most important thing was to notice that there were words such as "In the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty was the one who went to Qingdu in one fell swoop" and "The Emperor of Ming met again and put the Huer halfway". He immediately understood that this was another big rebellious case no less than the "word Guankan".
The so-called "Zhi Guan Case" was a literary inquisition that occurred in the 42nd year of Qianlong. Wang Xihou, a native of Xinchang (now Yifeng), Jiangxi Province, felt that there were too many characters included in the "Kangxi Dictionary" and felt that many of them were not used, so he compiled a dictionary based on this and named it "Zhi Guan".
The reason why he gave this name was that he believed that words were like change, and compiling words with the same radicals was like a string of money that strings of change.
This chapter is not finished yet, please click on the next page to continue reading the exciting contents later! The original meaning of Wang Xihou compiled this dictionary is good, but he shouldn't have been absolutely necessary. In the book, the names of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong are not shy away. For example, the last point of Xuan cannot be written in the word "Xuanye", and the word "Yuan" cannot be replaced by the word "Ye". In addition, the vertical line of the word "Hua" on the right side of "Ye" cannot be written.
Not to mention the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty could not tolerate him!
The result was that he was reported, and Qianlong said that "the crime should not be punished, and he should follow the law of rebellion." In the end, Wang Xihou was executed and seven descendants were sentenced to be beheaded. The relevant relatives "released Heilongjiang and became slaves with the armored people." Jiangxi governor and the censor who had read this book were both dismissed.
Let’s talk about the Xu family’s case. After Liu Yong learned about the detailed case, he felt that the matter was serious, so he “had to take responsibility” and submitted a memorial to Qianlong, and ordered the immediate arrest of the person in this case, etc.
Lord Liu wrote in his memorial to Qianlong, "If there is any rebellion, it should be handled strictly; if there is no rebellion, it should be written off to avoid confusing people's hearts and customs. Now it is transferred to the governor and governor to handle it." Qianlong was furious after receiving Liu Yong's report and quickly issued an order to investigate it strictly.
Therefore, the case was infinitely escalated because of Liu Yong, and it was implicated. The first ones were the Xu family in Dongtai, followed by the Xu and Shen Chengzhuo family, the Shen family in Suzhou, the Tao Yi family of Jiangning governor Tao Yi, the Lu Yan family of Tao Yi's aide, and all the officials in charge of the case.
As long as you are involved in "Yizhulou Poetry Collection", you will not let it go.
All the above people were searched and then punished.
Before we knew it, the night fell.
Lu Shoushan told the whole story, and it was really hard for him to remember it so clearly. Wang Yuanfang carried a kettle to add water to Lu Shoushan's teacup and asked softly: "Have the Xu family been arrested?"
"Everything was captured. The housekeeper, I, Brother Xiucheng... didn't run away." A look of pain appeared on Lu Shoushan's face.
During the investigation and handling of the case that year, other distant relatives of Xu and Shen Chengzhuo in Dongtai's Qicha Town, as well as distant relatives of Xu and Shen Chengzhuo fled one after another, and since then they changed their names and had nowhere to go.
"What happened later?" several people in the tent asked at the same time.
"In November of that year, the imperial edict of Emperor Qianlong was issued. The eldest and second young masters... The Xu family was beheaded as soon as they were over 16 years old. The women, children, and the people in the family were exiled to Ningguta as slaves."
The people around him looked at Lu Shoushan's eyes and tears, and they didn't know what to say for a moment.
Deng Fei hesitated and asked, "Then... aren't the old master of the Xu family and Mr. Xu both passed away? It should be fine, right?"
"Digging the grave... Ling Chi's body is broken... beheading the head!"
Lu Shoushan plucked up all his strength and gritted his teeth and said these ten words. At this moment, his eyes turned bloody red, and the white porcelain tea cup in his hand burst out with a "pop" and was actually crushed by him. A stream of blood flowed along the wound in his palm onto the mat.
"Liu! Go to the car and bring the medicine box!" Zhao Xin saw it and shouted to Liu Sheng quickly.
When Lu Shoushan was so sad and angry, he seemed to have forgotten the pain in his hand. He raised his injured left hand and was about to wipe his tears. Wang Yuanfang, who was beside him, quickly pressed Lu Shoushan's arm and said anxiously: "Don't move!"
Liu Sheng quickly brought the medicine box. As soon as he took out the iodine wine, Zhao Xin said, "Give me tweezers first, there are still porcelain pieces in the wound."
Zhao Xin took the tweezers, patted Lu Shoushan on the shoulder, and said softly: "Brother Lu, let go of your hand, I have to help you select the broken porcelain pieces."
After a lot of trouble, he took out the broken porcelain pieces from the wound one by one, then he used a medicinal cotton to dip the iodine wine to scrub the wound, and finally sprinkled with white medicine and bandaged it.
